  • Wing commander Roger Rammston sat in the bunker of the airfield with his radio man. He had drawn up a few tactical strike plans and was awaiting word from HQ to begin.

    the radio squawked to life

"........ sustaining heavy losses , immediate air backup required...."

    Static followed.

"Position the location of that transmisiion son" ordered the Commander

"Yes Sir" replied the Radio man as he fiddled with the knobs and got the satellites far above Azan tuning in for a location.

    "GPS tracking him now sir"

"As soon as we have a fix , order the 23rd Squadran to target accordingly"

    "Yes sir"

      • GNN Headline news: Guardinia answers the call!

Yesterday the people of Azan's Western Isles declared their support for the Free Azan government based in New Aurora. Late last night, the islands were secured by forces from the Azani Liberation Army, and we can confirm that this morning several thousand Jonchastani personnel joined them to help defend their independence.

In order prove the sincerity of the League of Armed Neutrality in upholding the democratic rights of Azani self-government, we call on all progressive nations to join in the defence of Free Azan.

Specifically, we invite the nations of the ADU - Ceroo, Guardinia and Centralis - to join with us in defence of a free Azan.

In response to the above Communique from the Jonchastan Coordinating Congress, Guardinia announced today that it was commiting its' forces to the defense of Free Azan!

At 03:30 hours this morning, Guardinian naval forces entered the patrol zone guarded by the League of Armed Neutrality and began linking up with LAN naval forces patrolling this area.

At 04:00, Guardinian forces began two major amphibious landing operations north and west of New Aurora.

The joint Cerooan-Guardinian Fleet is also reported to be entering Azani Waters and approaching the coast. Specific details of the fleet's mission are not available at this time, but it is evident that something big is going on.

Stay with us as follow this morning's developments minute by minute.

This is Charlotte Townsend at GNN. We repeat that Guardinian troops are landing in Free Azan! We take you now to Guardinia City where President Fowler has called a press conference to answer questions about the landing...

        • OOC: A crude map of Guardinian operations. (I'm not too good with this, but Azazel helped me out a bit by posting a map he made in the Map thread just a little while ago)

Port Blacksand is Guardinia's biggest harbor and also has the largest naval base. One of the largest Air Force bases (Westinghouse AFB) is also in this area, so the Guardinians are definitely on their own home turf.

Purple ships mark known positions of Guardinian naval forces, while the arrows mark the amphibious landings. The yellow ship is the joint Cerooan-Guardinian fleet. (-Or where the GNN think it is. )

          • Destroyer GNS Excalibur, in Free Azan Waters, entering patrol zone of the LAN

As the now familiar shape of a Jonchastan frigate appeared on the horizon, the signalman flashed over a message:

            Jonchastan Navy
This is Guardinian Navy warship Excalibur
Here to lend you a hand. Others to join us shortly. Where do you need us?

            • As Hassan Kazemi ran hunched over across Highway 7, he tried to avoid the tripping on one of the many craters and pockmarks. He also tried not to think about the tracer fire buzzing by just overhead.

"Do you think those're Hivers shooting at us, or FCLers?" asked a smiling Azani commander as Hassan dropped into the ditch on the other side of the road.

"Probably a bit a both," Hassan smiled back, "Though hopefully soon not much of either. Our people are in possition on the other side, Commandante. They'll follow your lead whenever you're ready."

"Excellent, Comrade Kazemi. We'll have a nice little reunion with them in Roshem, shall we?"

              • Amphibious assault ship GNS Wasp, off the Azani coast north of New Aurora

As the last of the landing craft left the Wasp's "belly" and headed for the shore, the big ship turned north and began moving clear of the landing beach. She would stay in the area to support the marines she had just landed, but she had to move off to the side so as not to create a traffic jam. On the shore, engineers were working frantically to set up a temporary harbor for the even bigger ships that would follow. In another couple of hours, cargo vessels were supposed to be docked and unloading the tanks of the 1st Armor Division - known as the Armored Titans.

                            • Inside Occupied Azan somewhere

Brewer's group rushed over to the attack helicopter downed just moments ago, assault rifles in hand. Stump yelled excitedly, "These Viper things work like the blazens!" They could see the wreckage ahead by moonlight, and there's a body lying just a metre or two from it.

The group found two of the four men crew lying outside the helo, with one of them alive. The two remained inside were dead. Brewer barked out orders, "Sam, try to keep that man alive. Stump, Bill and Tom, quickly check what we can salvage. Joe and Mike, we move ahead to adopt a defensive position. Stewart, help Sam to move the prisoner back. Ten minutes later we fall back. Now go."
