"Admiral- in appears the Jonchastani have landed troops on the western isles! News is just coming in from the Guardinians- they have assumed full control under the 'Free Azan' banner." said Lieutenant Giles.
Fitzpatrick walked to the bridge window and looked over to the island. Having just been made aware of Auldoninnan airstrikes in the area, this latest developement concerned him. Were the Jonchastani, or even the entire 'neutral' league allied with the Auldoninnans now? "Any word from the Artic Glow yet?"
    "No, sir."
"Damn it" Fitzpatrick could get quite animated when angry "We leave without them".
    "Sir?"
"Signal the rest of the fleet, we leave now- commence Operation Liberty".
    "Yes, sir" said Giles.
"But the first fleet is not here yet, sir" came Commander Kaminski's response.
"Then we go without them too".
Kaminski and Giles glanced at each other, they knew the first fleet was en route from Polynesia and that they needed the air support from their aircraft carrier. But the High Admirals' orders were not be questioned.

    Noosland Central Command
The armoured black car left the building accompanied by security escort and sped down the road towards the Cerooan embassy. Inside Ambassador Jenna Cooper and Vice Admiral Rob Payne discussed the meeting.
"Do you think they will go for it?" asked the ambassador.
"Not sure, they may not want to commit to joining the ADU" said Payne, "I got the impression that they wanted to keep their options open."
"First Minister Morgan was on the phone before we went in, he was quite adamanent that we should seek Nooslandian support".
"If they join the alliance though, we're sure they already got troops in Azan, we would have to send our boys in to help them out".
"Morgan gave the impression we were going in anyway"
"So did the High Admiral, I think it's a case of get as many people fighting for the same goal as possible now- I'm being sent to Centralis next to offer them membership".
"Really? What about the so-called-neutrals? I hear the Guardinian government is quite fond of Basus and Jonchastan"
"I don't think they'd want in just yet".
"Hey, do you think that's why they were being so coy in the meeting? They're already planning on joining up with the League?"
    "Who knows..."

      • Official Communique from the Jonchastan Coordinating Congress of the Guard and Militia Councils to all interested parties

Yesterday the people of Azan's Western Isles declared their support for the Free Azan government based in New Aurora. Late last night, the islands were secured by forces from the Azani Liberation Army, and we can confirm that this morning several thousand Jonchastani personnel joined them to help defend their independence.

In order prove the sincerity of the League of Armed Neutrality in upholding the democratic rights of Azani self-government, we call on all progressive nations to join in the defence of Free Azan.

Specifically, we invite the nations of the ADU - Ceroo, Guardinia and Centralis - to join with us in defence of a free Azan.

        • King of the Islands

Gabriel rarely conteplated this anymore. In the last 8 months, everything changed so fast around him. The fall of central government. The Frankychanian invasion, and also, his rise to power in this little forgotten piece of land. How could all happen so fast, and how the hell was he lucky enough to escape out of mainland alive? Things were going so well for everyone, it seemed, He was finishing his degree in Social Engineering in the Or Yedah National institute of technology, and would easily beat the competition in any possible government tender for a vacancy in administrating either a small local authority, or a village, or maybe, maybe he could return to the army, for some more action in the Republican rangers? or maybe continue to graduate school, and use his time for more research? All the doors were open for him, due to his hard work, and all seemed so well, until that bloody morning, when all hell broke loose, catching him on a vacation in a forest north of Tel Azan. He still pondered his luck. Escaping two squads of Frankychany stormtroopers, without even as much as a scratch, and taking two of them down? "well, they don't make those stormtroopers as well as they used to" he thought to himself.

"Governor", a young clerk entered the room, "we have an urgent message from the generals A'Shari and Eliyahu"."What is it?", asked Ben, lighting a genuine Jonchastani sigar. He knew he had to kick this awful habit, even though he picked it just two months ago. "Blink's airdefence is fully ready, all the troops are ready on boats around Ir Yam, and our 3 Fighter-bombers are fueled up on the airstrip. We're proceeding as planned". "Very well", Gabriel said, "and tell David that I'll meet him on the Island next morning". David Eliyahu was Gabriel's old commander from the army. It's funny to see how roles were reveresed. But then again, lots of water passed under the bridge since that time.

"We're going to nail that *******, who the provincial government installed, And then, we're going to whoop some serious Frankychani ass." He mused. " And then, Aurora will clearly see the importance of bringing back the old Republic" .

          FIVE HOURS LATER

The helicopter landed on the roof of the local administration. It was already night in Ir Yam, and the tempratures dropped considerably during the winter, so noone was on the streets. Around the helicopter landing site, a small crowd of people dressed in raincoats assembled. one of them stood out, due to the small neckless he was wearing.

Gabriel stepped out of the helicopter, and walked swiftly to escape the wind of the rotor blades that made this chilly night absolutely freezing.

"Governor Ramon" the man with the neckless said. "Hello, Ben, it's a pleasure to see you. I am glad that you've decided to end this peacefully.", Gabriel replied. "Well you, see Gabbie, I am not the one who wanted it, to be honest. I think that the provisional government has a good chance to reach a peaceful solution with Frankychania, or, beat it back, if necessary. But luckily for you, the people don't agree". "If you think I am lucky, you probably don't know what goals I've set for us" Gabriel replied. "Us?" Ir Yam's governor asked? "Yes, us. You've been doing a great job here, Ben, and I want you to stay in the mean time. Hopefully, we'll get an election going on pretty soon, and then I can't guarantee much" He smiley. " I am ready to lose an election, if one will take place" laughed Ben. He still had that republican education, Gabriel thought.

            • The Return to the Mainland

Gabriel smiled, as he saw crowds cheering around the highway. As The coloumn of Light Tanks and heavy personell carriers, surrounded by soldiers of the old order, drove into the center of the city, he began to realize how heavy was the fighting on the mainland. Buildings were ruined, and the once proud skyscrapers of New Aurora have recieved many direct hits, probably from light artillery shells. News were constantly arriving at the comm link, the surrender of the rebel forces, pledging allegiance to the Old Order. The lookout point on Aurora Hill, the Airport, the Parliament building, they were all captured. It was time to drive on to the Main Executive building.

              • Netflash!

Joint Command issued a statement today that the first of a projected deployment of 5,000 combat troops has landed in New Aurora.

The contingent of 100 troops was brought in a Hercules transport on lease from the Duchess of Doujin in Alecrast. Another 2,000 troops are en route by sea, with the remainder to be deployed once a Karakasian command post has been established.

The 5,000 troops of the first wave are expected to be backed up by armor and air units in the second wave of Karakas' deployment.
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

                • In the commandante's office

"They're everywhere, comrade" a young leutenant stormed the room. "Gabriel's men are slowly entering the city, and our troops are unwilling to engage them, seeing them as brothers". "Idiots", Benyamin whispered to himself, and then, slightly raising his voice, asked "Do they really think that bringing the Old Republic is even feasible at this point? Gabriel, I sort of understand, he's young and maximalist, but Ben? I never expected anything of the sort. He should've known better".

Some loud noices came from the floor below "Well, I guess, here they come" Benyamin sighed. The door opened, and the tired, yet powerful figures of Ramon, and Eliyahu entered the room. "It's time we talk."

                  concensus

"What do you want to talk about?" Gluckstein asked. "It's quite clear that you have decided it all by yourself. Sure, you're young and idealistic now, and probably will do what's best for the people, but as history has shown, you, too, will turn old and totalitarian, as many before you who came to power through force."
                  -"Unlike you?"
-"I am sorry, but I am just following orders of Comrade Mayor. She's the one calling the shots, and she was elected by the people".
-"The people of New Aurora, certainly. The people of Azan? I am afraid not." Gabriel replied. "I carry behind myself the support of the people of the western Isles. That's 10% of the population right there. And as you saw, many of your own troops support me." Gabriel continued. "I am just afraid, that the Free Azan movement, and the Army have grown out of proportions. New institutions must be set up, Not one of what consists barely a city-state, but the institutions of our republic, with it's power spread across the land".

-"What land?" Gluckstein smiled sadly. "We're barely out of reach of the Frankychany rocket artillery on the mountain tops, even now. "
-"Yes, but this will change. Our allies from abroad are pouring in forces, as we speak".
-"Yes, but first, the take me as the supreme commander of Azani forces, not you, and secondly, most of them are just using our struggle to take shots at the Frankychanis. While this is still advantageous, and commendable, We must be realistic about this."
-"Do you really think that nations would commit ground forces to an opportunistic war, just like this? I think that our friends are true friends. Plus, when fighting Frankychanland, most of the world is united".
-"True that." Gluckstein mused. "Well, Junior, I guess you haven't left me any choice. However, beware of the despotic power you possess, since being the direct commander of the army, and taking care of civilian matters, is a sure recipee for disaster."
-"I am not in here alone. Eliyahu will be the Chief of Staff, Ben Goldman is the Western Isles Grand Governor, A'Shari will command our forces on the Isles, while you, I want you as the commander of the Roshem front."
Gluckstein Chuckled. "Do you want me to take Roshem with that?" And pointed to the three light tanks parked across the Avenue.
" We have some left behind Auldonian equipment on the Isles, and shipments of armaments are flowing from all over the Region. We have tens of thousands of ex-military personell all over the Emet valley, and millions of supporters. You know full well that the frankychanis are suffering heavy losses from even straying into the cities there. All of their bases are on the outskirts of the megapolises. My forces even now number tens of thousands."

-"Here we go again, 'My forces'" Gluckstein shook his head. "Oh stop it you know what I meant", Ramon replied.

-"Oh well, I guess it all comes down to what Miss Mayor says".

                  Sarah Joffe

The mayor sat behind her desk, staring at a piece of paper that projected numbers and plant output for the next year. Severe shortages in various luxury items didn't worry her that much. However the manufacture of Machinery, and chemicals, as well as the weapons that were supposed to be made from them, not to mention some basic foodstuffs came to a griding halt. And now, she lost the economy of the western Isles, as well. It seemed that nothing was going the right way, and the Frankychani forces were relentless. So were the local guerilla leaders all over the Emet valley, urgently asking for more weapons and supplies. They really needed those western Isles right now, with the Auldonian factories, and foodstuffs. They had plenty of machinery, that could revive the manufacturing effort here. And the forces there....
                  "Goddamn you, Ramon" She thought.

                  • Basus will continue the defence of New Aurora with aid of the Basus fleet in it's harbours but Basus's goverment is confused by all the sudden changes and welcomes all parties in this conflict on board of the "admiraliteit" to negotiate a ceasefire and to establish temporary boundries to create more clarity in this conflict.

Basus's military shall not participate in any military action besides the defence of New Aurora untill we have gained a full oversight of the situation and of the politics of our allies.

"ok, so here's the deal", Gideon, a young negotiating specialist, hooked up his laptop to the cable on the table, and turned on the projector, that started displaying a chart.
"This will the temporary structure of the Republic. As you can see, it's very similar to what we had in the old order, but as you can see, we'll have ample room for feedback from all of the society, as well as room for new ideas. Also, Our team has paid special attention to the currently needed war economy."

"What will ensure a swift transition of power to the normative civil society, when needed?" Sarah asked. "Oh this is very simple", Gabriel decided to step in. "No matter what happens, my rule as the chief executive is limited to two years. After that, if needed, we'll convene again, to decide on either maintaining me as the head, or going to full elections, and the establishment of a parliament. All of my forces will pledge allegiance to the Republic, effective immideately, and a unified command will be created, also, ASAP."
"Sounds good" Sarah said. "Wait, how does it prevent both of us joining forces, and taking the power for good?!" It was Karen Or, the young Ex-vice-Mayor/President. Karen, herself the daughter of a construction worker, and an junior mechanic, climbed to the top with an undeniable amount of Hard work, and luck, herself. Graduated with honours from the 1st Egalitee School in New Aurora, Top of her class in the Azanian Republican Guard Sniper school, a degree with Honors in Supply Engineering from the Tel Azan school of economics, she, too, was destined to shine in the bright Azani future, only to find that future burning away with the burn of the rest of the country, after the Frankychani invasion, that followed the demilitarization that Azan had experienced in the last couple of years, before the invasion. All of these events destroyed her future, but may've just created an even more shining one.

"A true republican at heart", Gabriel smiled. "I guess that we'll have a much simpler solution. Unconditional elections in 3.5 years".

"General Yoon, the Azani are fighting each other!"

"What?" she asked, jumping to her feet. "Just what we need. Give me details!"

The adjunct who stopped to catch his breath before answering. He had just run down the hallway from the communications room, "Forces from the Western Isles and their supporters... Intel thinks they're hold-overs from the old republic..."

"Mayor Joffe is a 'hold-over from the old-republic.' Big deal. Who are they now? And who's backing them? Frankychanland? The Hive? Auldoninna? One of the 'good guys'?"

"That's just it, general. Nobody's backing them."

General Yoon sighed, and visibly relaxed a little. "So Intel thinks this is a dispute between Free Azanis? Right. Their timing sucks, but it's not our problem. Send a message to Mayor Joffe and...?"

"Gabriel Ramon, Governor of the Western Isles."

"...Governor Ramon. Tell them to sort this out quickly - be crystal clear to both sides that we think it's their problem to resolve - and that Jonchastan's support is for a genuinely Free Azan. Who's leading it is none of our business."

Satisfied, General Yoon turned back to the other man in her field office.

"Sorry for the interruption. Now, Colonel Downings, what can I do for you?"

"Yes General, as I said, I wish to coordinate the perimeter defenses with you. Let me brief you a bit on the background. We have the 3rd light infantry division holding the defensive perimeters now, and they are directly under my command. Plus all the divisional assets, of course. The 3rd is one of the Nooslandian divisions that is specially trained to hold prepared defensive positions. However, I think your people may be better for the job, leaving the 3rd to be the strategic reserves. There are also a number of Nooslandian teams - special forces - that I could deploy, but they are best used in surgical strikes, inflitration, that sort of thing.

"Also, the Nooslandian 3rd fleet is providing naval and aerial defenses for the International Sanctuary now."
