Elections in Centralis

Elections held in Centralis today confirmed the leadership of the presently-ruling Labour Alliance, which had as it's key aims the elimination of private enterprise from Centralis, the expansion of free government services to all, and a substantial reorientation of Centralis's alliances. The precise electoral results were:

Labour Alliance: 62%
Libertarian Party: 15%
Communist Party: 14%
Other/Independent: 9%

After the results were announced, giving the Labour Alliance the ability to put policies into practise much more freely, President Leopold von Mordenhein announced that Centralis would be moving away from the Assimilation Corp bloc, in favour of other alliances. He hastened to add that Centralis bore the Assimilation Corp no ill will, but stated quite firmly that the alliance with the Assimilation Corp was "no longer a military necessity, and our self-interest now lies elsewhere."

President Mordenhein also stated that Centralis was now officially ceasing any association with the the World Business ORganisation, although few expect anyone to notice.

President Jose Djordjevic of Karakas personally congratulated the Labour Alliance on their election victory, according to a government source.

However, some commentators were sceptical regarding the results, with pro-capitalist opinionists calling it a victory for protectionism and socialism.

Minister Lewis, leader of the Labour Party in Ceroo heralded the result in Centralis as "a great victory" and that he "hopes that recent region-wide results against corrupt, capitalists governments may filter through to Ceroo". The Labour Party are currently the third largest party in Parliament House, but are looking to make significant gains in the forthcoming elections.

First Minister Cooper, despite congratulating President von Mordenhein on his victory, expressed concern at the increasingly anti-business politics of Centralis, and in a speech to parliament hinted that the Apolyton region could be heading for financial ruin if this trend continues into other nations. He however, welcomed Centralis' efforts to distance itself from Assimilation Corp, an organisation which had been viewed with suspiscion by the Cerooan administration.

Several columnists, opinion-writers and political pundits across the media are questioning whether Ceroo should withdraw its endorsement of a nation that is biased against business, and that Centralis' role within the UN may be influenced by their anti-business policies.
However, it is also expected that the First Minister will reaffirm Ceroo's endorsement when Parliament reconvenes.
