  • Karakas - Kyralia Accords

    Report from SouthernNews.com

Government officials made an unexpected announcement today, revealing to a surprised public that diplomatic relations exist between Karakas and Kyralia for the first time since the island became independent in 1958.

Almost four months of mostly-secret negotiations culminated in the signing of an accord providing for the re-opening of embassies and limited trade and exchange between the two nations, according to a Foreign Secretariat spokesman.

However, an anonymous government source told SouthernNews.com that the accord does not address the most serious issues between Karakas and Kyralia, including the status of Adailton, rights to the Isandlwana natural gas field near Pendelhaven, and compensation demanded by the island for Karakasian occupation between 1876 and 1958.

The Kyralian government has been desperate to improve its international relations, having seen its economy encounter a deep recession and dissent against the ruling Communist Party rise in recent years. It remains recognized by only two nations in Apolyton, Greater Silvera and Kyren.

I didn't know if this was an update on events that had occurred before I got into NS, or not.
