Yeah, I've seen those language charts with English and Frisian in their own little corner of the West Germanic languages, under the subcategory "Anglo-Frisian".

Always seems to me that it ignores the very strong influence of French vocabulary though.

Is there any way to choose the civilisations you're playing against without going into the scenario editor?

"Q1: When I start a new game, I always play against the same civs (in the unmodded game: Americans, English, Greek, Scottish, etc). Why can't I play against random opponents?

A1: If you want to play with random civs (regardless of what mods you're (not) using), there are two things to keep in mind:

          1. You have to play on one of the higher difficulty levels, IIRC Prince/Medium or higher.
          2. You have to make sure NonRandomCivs in ctp2_program\userprofile.txt is set to No.

If both these conditions are met you'll play against different opponents every time you start a new game."

Not exactly what I had in mind. The question relates to playing
against random civs. What I'm asking is if I can choose the civs. That is to make them non-random, but the civs of my choosing.

Thanks IW, I had a feeling that would be the case

That's another for Activision (add a large amount of irony, which Mexicans know a lot of)

I thought you could do this by starting a hotseat game but choosing only one human player (See the FAQ for how to enable hotseat).

Yeah you can, you can also do it by choosing a LAN game.

That should be in the FAQ as well.
