  • using a custom map?

I tried searching but didn't see this anywhere. All I want to do is use a custom map for a CtPII game. No rules changes, no mods, nothing fancy, jsut a custom map. I saved the map, but when I start the game, I don't see any options about loading a map.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?

Download the CTP2 editor. It has absolutely everything you need to create custom maps.

      Downloading the CTP2 editor?

I didn't know that such a thing exists. Actual you create costum maps with the "cheat" (scenario) editor. Once you have a map you can create modified text files for a scenario and put it into the right scenario folder. Actual a map without any rule changes is treated by CTP2 as a scenario with standart rules. So if you saved your map with the scenario editor as scenario you can go to the scenario load option and load your scenario that actual just contains a map nothing more nothing less.

        Ah ha!

Thanks Martin, that was the trick: I had to save it as a scenario to use it.

Now I need to figure out how to modify research, but I think that's another forum.

Here's a thread where some Activision guys talk about the editor. http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum35/HTML/000243.html

So far I haven't found a download link but I can remember downloading it and playing around with it a year or so ago. I'll keep noising around until I find a link then I'll post it here.

            1. St Swithin's a girl, not a guy

            2. She's talking about the Cheat Menu, which is part of the game (just press '!'), not downloadable

            3. That didn't even come close to helping bardbear

            4. That link is OLD!

            5. Nice avatar

            6. I like this numbering of sentences, maybe I should do it more often?

            7. (Sorry, it's very late over hear, I'll just go to bed now )

Don't let it bother to you Oerdin, no need to patch the scenario editor (ok there is somethink that be could be patched the city buttons, but actual it is working).

And John is (or was) working on a CTP1/2 text file editor, hope he will continue, soon.

I've not forgotten, but my programming focus got distracted by POV-Ray. I'll get back to it sometime soon, and hopefully with some fresh insight .

Ow, POV-Ray! Tell me you're designing some cool new units for us

(We could really use a decent crossbowman *hint* *hint* )

'Fraid not. I'm doing clouds, and experimenting with dispersion and other neat (and I think new) features in v3.5. I got a pretty cool sunset, but I can improve it yet.

I did do some units for my Mars Mod in POV-Ray ages ago but they looked pathetic (no shadows, no detail... I believe I did a dirigible, and a couple of sci-fi artilleries which were just a colourful cone stuck on a cylinder...)

A crossbowman or any unit showing any flesh is far beyond my meagre abilities.

But I could supply some animated clouds for Big Mc if he still wants them (I seem to recall a request, I'll have to go look for that thread...).

Well, I guess that's nice too. I'll wait for the Civ3 cloud to design a Crossbowman then and rip that off

                          He said grudgingly

                          ...the Civ3 cloud...

Is that a subtle joke or a mistake - I'll assume the former .
