...I was looking at the CTP2 manual, specifically the picture on the front cover. On the left, there is a picture of a modern (high tech) Egyptian city (desert, pyrimids, etc...). I guess its supposed to inspire a "what if" sort of wonder in the person viewing it - what if the Nile Empires never fell and became high tech and all that.
Well, I noticed that the signs on the building are all written in English with Arabic subtitles (was in Tunisia this year and saw the same thing - Arabic and French).
Well, that goes counter to the whole idea of the "timeless" egytpian empire, dosn't it? It rather implies, not one, but TWO cultural invasions. That the Arabs swarmed over it (which they did, along with just about everyone else) followed by the English (and their franchise units, based on that "Tuts Burger Hut" I can make out).
So much for the timeless empire along the nile picture. Of course, I know what happened. Someone was commishoned to do the art, and was told to make a futuristic egyptian city. With imagination usually reserved to middle managers, it looks like they did.
Apolyton takes soooooo long to load sometimes....
