Destruction is a lot easier than construction. The guy who operates a wrecking ball has a easier time than the architect who has to rebuild the house from the pieces.--- Immortal Wombat.
I made a mistake in wartime of conquering too many cities, and I now have 52 under my control, whereas my recommended maximum is 45.
I need to stop fighting because it is making my citizens very unhappy, and I am also feeling very vulnerable because I am mobilising all my garrisoned units to help the war effort; so I decided to use recently captured cities as a bargaining tool in getting cease-fires signed.
However, the list of cities appears to be in chronological order, and the cities I wish to surrender, my most recent acquisitions, do not appear on the list. I have tried to scroll down, Page Down etc etc, but nothing seems to work.
The only thing I can think of is RENAMING your city that you will remeber or like ROME1 with the number so you know when it was captured orr WRIGHTING it on a piece of paper and then looking for it.
Hey there. Thanks for the replies. I am only playing with 8 players.
I tried loading while in a game. I tried loading by exiting a game. I tried loading by exiting the game, shutting the computer off. Wait a min, start up the computer and load the game. to no avil it did not work so I just started a new game. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled is a seconded time with the patch and so far have had no problems. My problems started around turn 274 and right now i am at turn 100 so hopefully it wont happen again. IF it does I will post again.
I just bought CivII yesterday and tried installing it on my system. When I go to play the game, the screen first changes to black, then switches back to the desktop and minimizes, a couple of seconds later I get a "Illegal Operation" error by windows and the game shuts down.
I've installed DirectX 8.x and WinMedia Player in the hopes that this would help, but no dice. This is really frustrating considering I just paid $70.00 Can for the game. Please help whoever can.
I have the same problem. Pretty lame it doesn't recognize a newer version.
It works anyway, though. Just don't start the game from the CD. Have the CD in the drive, but start the game from the Start menu. Then I have had no problems (at least with this part).

Yes, this would work if it were in alphabetical order, but the list is in chronological order. Almost all the cities on the list are my own created ones, or if not, then are central to my empire.
The new ones I have conquered, after years of bombing and missile bombardment, are small, insignificant and mostly long distances from my empire, and in the middle of enemy territory, so getting rid of them is an advantage anyway, until I can build up a stronger military to hold onto them.
I can't disband them because they are too large; I have toyed with the idea of starving them to death until they reach size 3, but they are too valuable a bargaining tool for me to do that.
On the tech chart it says it gives $500. Is this a one time boost? in the great library all it says it gives the host empire a cash influx. I took that as every turn. I built it once and seemed to only get $500 and thats it. Not worth the time to build in my opnion.
First of all. Civ2? do you have the right game? you mean Call to Power 2 right?
i am using windows me. i am not shure how 2000 works but what i have read dont install dirext x 8.0 too many people are having problems with it and try using that patch.
"CTRL-g" is printed on the back cover of the CTP II manual listing keyboard shortcut keys.
Like everyone else, I was trying to figure out the science victory. Just for added info, in my game I built 37 satellites and 46 obelisks (on a large map) and still only got an effective radius of 8 from the obelisks. I trtied building more than 10 controllers but the game only recognizes the first 10 and the extras don't seem to help. You can put obelisks, just as with any other public work, in any ALLIED territory as well as your own. I "discovered" that late in the game, and would have been helpful building my road networks seeing as I had 2 Allies.
Installing in Z-drive, how would that work ? The problem is that I get a message something like "CTPII has detected Windows NT 4.0 on your system. CTPII required Windows 95,98 or 2000" which appears before I even have the chance to run the setup or choose where to install it
Does anyone else know about this Z drive installation, or any other getaround ?
