is the game fun and challenging?

hi

i have seen some of the online reviews for ctp2. some say it's static at times as far as gameplay is concerned and that the AI is weak. please give opinions how this compares to civ2 and alpha centauri.

I began playing civ strategy games since Microprose's Civilization on the Super Nintendo. (god, that makes me sound old at age 23)

Compared to Civilization II on the PC with CTP II that I have now, the AI seemed a little better in Civilization II. In CTP II, without modifications, the AI appeared to be illogical and flawed.

But there are modifications that I did, and one of those was increasing the time allowed for AI to make decisions in its turn. Find the post on it in Creation section.

Now, after making this and other modifications, I believe I have seen a little improvement - nothing dramatic though.

I have had good progress in making the AI harder.
I now have AI that are aggresive and competetive on all areas, Just need them to be a bit smarter tacticaly. But with the slic code this is possible takes a few funcitons.. Will think about what I need over the weekend.

SMAC in my opinion has the best AI ever.

Why? It is far more aggressive, but thats all. SMAC can't handle marine attacks, make silly terraforming and is cheating all the time.

I like SMAC, but the AI could be better.

I never said the smac ai was good. In all TBS games the AI has NEVER been good. Just I think the AI was the best in smac. Although just the fact there were personalities could make the AI seem smarter. Anyways the AI was quite agressive in SMAC an dthat also probably made them seem more agressive. Also in my smac game they actually conquered other civs which helps too.
