What's up with the AI?

Historically, you would say that Germany, China, Korea etc... would have bad attitudes regarding diplomacy. Does this actually have an effect in CTPII? If so, what would I have to do to warm up to these "bad" boys? Or would I just be wasting my resources?

If this is the case; then which Civs are more approachable?

I'm in the year 1320AD and I yearn for a friend in my world!

The Civs tend to just be on the mean side, I think personalities are random, but you can check your intelligence in the diplomacy manager to see the leader's "outlook on life", btw, why would you consider Chinese and Koreans to be historically hostile?

I got a lot of peace agreement when i asked for peace and then they rejected and then i threaten them with war then they sign. And they are getting happier with me each turn..

So now they even react on my proposals with Counter Proposal.

Always threaten with war if a civ rejects treaty, always works if the civ is alot weaker then you.

Well I am korean, well actually im american [lol], but I think Chinese and Koreans, i dunno about the germans, to be historically hostile. They were very inward civs which regarded all other cultures as barbaric and tended to be very isolated.

Germans are not historically hostile, they were mostly peacful and divided.

Anyhow, teh personalities are the same each game methinks, and some are easier to get a peace treaty with. Shrewd traders for example, are pretty easy.

They needed a Slavic emperor (the Prussians were slavs) to get unified and militaristic and an Austrian dictator to get, uhm, nasty

Probably most of the "island" civilizations are more xenophobic (Japanese, English), as well as isolated or more homogeneous civs (the chinese) so that they can be viewed as "hostile".
What do you think?
Could it be implemented in the game (ex: big continent with 5 happy freindly civs and two small islands with 2 nasty bastard civs)

Well, there's a theory (not very popular among archeologists and sociologists these days) that the climate a culture grows up in determines a part of that nation's character. It's a bit of a simple explanation, but it makes a certain amount of sense. You'll notice that most "conquering" type civilizations tend to be nomads (particularly the ones we charactarize as "barbarians"). Most nomads live in places where you really wouldn't want to settle down - Mongolia is not the nicest place in the world, and it would make me irritable too. The Vikings also lived in a harsh climate. Here in North America, the East Coast is a bit harsher in climate than the West Coast, and the West Coast Native American tribes were pretty mellow, while the East Coast ones were more aggressive. The English? Well, the English had a lot of Viking culture in them - both from the villages the Vikings left permanently in place, and from the Normans, who were, essentially, blonde, French-speaking Vikings.

Just a thought, and probably wrong, but interesting to me.

Come on, your theory works there as well. They're isolated on an island (though there are very connected to the european mainland) and it rains there 24-7.
