  • Unit Manager

I really like the F8 Unit Manager. Never played CTP1, so it's new to me. It's wonderful though, to be able to see all your units, broken down by type, and where they are. Plus the Military support/% of production is great, find out how that huge army is really affecting you! Even includes the advice column, I think it's amusing that just like the real army, it usually says "We need more of Unit X (whatever fancy unit you just cooked up.)" And, of course, it helps in that annoying process of weeding out the hoplites and archers once you have tanks and machine gunners. Only thing I wish for is a unit upgrade feature, but I can live without that.

If you liked that, try the advice you get when you open up the other tab (tactical info, or whatever it's called). It gives you advice on where to send your units to! Very cute I don't think I'll use it very often (the advice that is, the rest of the tab is extremely useful), but I like it a lot

As a matter of fact, unit upgrade might be something we're working on...

I'm really, really glad you liked the Unit Manager. I had put in a bunch of stuff I wanted, but didn't know for sure if anyone else would want it. Really, really glad. Thanks for putting up a nice post

St Swithin, such a feature would save LOTS of micromanagment time. plus it is really unrealistic to have warriors in the 1900's....

A good way to upgrade old units would maybe be to have a build option called "Upgrade" grouped with Infrastructure and Capitalization, that took old units and changed them to the next (current?) level of technology. This could cost a small production charge, and if left on would keep going until it had reached current tech (assuming it dind't jump straight to that) Then notify like an empty cue that all upgrading possible was complete. That would rock!

Using the Unit Mgr, I tried to activate some units that were in cities or sentineled. It's somewhat convoluted, I can't just hit "a" like in Civ.

Another thing that would be great: instead of just displaying "in the field" for a unit's location, it would be eminently useful to have it say "nr Rome". I recall Civ2 had something like that in a different screen.
