  • same civs...

    Maybe it's me, but I've started about 5 or 6 games so far, and it seems to me that out of that list of, what is it, 42? civs, I'm always playing against the same ones.

    It's always been me (Romans), Americans, French, German, English, Irish, Scottish and Native Americans.

    I tried choosing Americans, same civs, except Japan was added.

    And now that I think of it, from reading everyone's posts about their games, I don't remember the mention of different AI opponents.

    Isn't this supposed to be random? Kinda weird...

    Hmm, it may depend on who you pick, I supposed. As Welsh, I went up against Zulus, France, Mexicans, Greeks, and Assyrians. Later, as Incans, I went up against Mexicans, Americans, Greeks, Russians (I think), and, um, other people I haven' met yet .

    Well, I definately found different AI styles in the computer players. If you are asking if they a particular nationalities AI style changes from game to game, I'm not sure about that.

      I think you're on to something... I'm playing as Americans and the other civs are the Germans, English, Irish, Scottish, Native Americans and the Japanese! Plus the French may be there too, there's still some undiscovered terrain. That's not cool.

        Hmmm...I tried out a whole bunch of civs (including Welsh and Incas), and, using the cheat thing to quickly check out the opponents, it's always, always, always:

        Americans
        Native Americans
        English
        Scottish
        Irish
        French
        Germans

        If I pick any one of those, then the Japanese are there too.

        This kinda sucks...

          I havn't the game yet - but does the game have a userprofile.txt just as CTP?

          Course if, then look for something like

          NonRandomCiv=yes/no

          Just a suggestion.

              Kind od ridiculous that they didn't make that random choice the default, one of those many minor errors that made me feel sick about CTP1

                I think that it is that way so you don´t have the nicaraguans in all your games
                But anyway, i would like a screen where you pick you own enemies...

                  The same 7 civs over and over.. It seems there is no solution.. I wasted $50 bucks on this damn game.

                    OK!! This is really pissing me off! No matter what I try, I cannot get the game to start with anything but the same ****ing 7 Civilizations. Exactly what Daddy listed. Always the same!! Changing the NonRandomCiv in flag in UserProfile.txt to "No" does nothing! The game just changes it to "Yes" upon starting a new game. WHY!! The default is no! This has ruined my enjoyment of an otherwise great game. It's no fun playing the same damn races every game! Activision! Please fix this now!

                      Hmm, the fix works perfectly for me...
                      NonRandomCivs=No
                      Are you sure that's exactly what it says? If so, that's strange because when I changed that, started CTP2, created a new game with George Washington-Americans, it was random. Then I tried Geor-Americans, still random. Then I restarted CTP2 and tried LO-Americans, still random.

                      Therefore, I can think of three solutions: Wait for a patch, play the Americans, and/or use my computer which is having no problems.

                        Mad-Kat, if you change it and open the txt file again it´s still changed until you u start a new game again ?
                        It works good for me.
                        Play with 16 civs then you´ll get some new anyhow

                          I just looked at mine, it was set at no. Everygame I have played so far has had a different combo of civs.

                            I experimented with this last night, because I was getting very annoyed with always have the same AI races. I had the same problem Mad-Kat is having...I changed the NonRandomCivs line, but when I started a new game it still used the same civs, and when I looked again, the option was reset to yes.

                              Changing the "Yes" to a "No" does absolutly nothing for me. It doesnt go back to "Yes" after I change it, It stays "No" but the civs are still the same no matter what the line says.

                              Im packing this game up and selling it on Ebay. I wont get my $50 bucks back but hopefully I can cut my losses.
