  • mod advice for ctp2 newbies?

four of us were planning to try civ 3 ptw on a LAN this weekend, but from what we are reading we are now thinking CTP2 is a better choice for a number of reasons.

we could use some advice about mods though...

what mod should we play with? clearly we'll patch the game... but what mod? the three mods mentioned in the top thread, when i went to look at their changes, they all seemed to stress AI changes. what mod should we play that will be best for 4 ctp2 newbies playing their first multiplayer game with no computer opponent? (we're all civ 2 and civ 3 players, just not call to power). do we even need to bother with a mod for a good game?

    depends.....

You just want to play MP? or also have AI included.

If playing with AI, you should install at least the SAP-mod. For just 'bashing' your human opponent it wouldn't matter so much, but still suggested.......

The chances of you getting a MP game working with the mods is small, id stick to the default game with no AI's on a regular map or small map for some early action.

It's probably not worth the trouble of playing Apolyton Pack if you've no AIs. If you can get mods working over a LAN game (which is possible, though I've heard at least one person say they had to reinstall CTP2 before every game, which would be tiresome - I suspect there might have been some other solution to their problem though) then try Cradle, MedMod or WAW, since they change the game much more significantly, and probably have more balanced units, tech tree, etc. than the default game.
