  • refresh rate

    Hi all,

As some people might know, I changed my graphic-card.
I still have some problems left with it. For any reason CTP2 is using a different refresh-rate as the standard from the windows-resolution.

    Funny enough with it:

When first installing I used another monitor:

But the results I were getting are:

Windows 1024 resolution: using 100 Hz
CTP2 1024 resolution: using 87 Hz (on another monitor it changed it to 85)

The problem I have is that with 87Hz the screen is a mess, it works with the 85 Hz.

Does anyone know where to check/change?

Yes, I installed the latest drivers, but.................

    Any help would be appriciated

    Thanks in advance

Have you tried playing CtP2 in a higher/lower resolution?

Yes, I tried........ and again it is using a different refresh-rate....

I can't find anything about this problem. I even checked the registry. Nothing. I don't get it from where is it taking it?

I might start playing around with the entries of the graphik card in the registry, removing anything else then 100 Hz. But might be a bit drastic........

Well, if the game works perfectly okay on a different monitor and you have the latest video drivers, then it must be a monitor problem.

Try different monitor drivers. Upgrade if you can, downgrade if you must (i.e. if upgrading doesn't work). Try a driver specific for your monitor if you can, a generic monitor driver if you must.

(Note that there's a difference between monitor drivers and video drivers, this seems to be a monitor driver problem)

I tried yesterday with a third one.

This test gave me funny results:

          1. Monitor: 87 Hz
          2. Monitor: 85 Hz
          3. Monitor: 60 Hz

Number 1 and 2 are from Dell, number 3 from CTX.

And for 1 and 2 it is the same driver??????????

          It doesn't make sense anymore

Where is Windoofs getting the information, which refresh rate to use?

          Even generic driver doesn't work.......

          Sh*%&^t computers...........

Windows's info is unreliable, can you double-check the refresh values on the monitor itself (the menu that comes up when you press the buttons on the front of the manual should give you an option to display the refresh rates as well, most newer monitors have this option). It's the vertical refresh rate that you want to know.

However, I must admit this is a weird problem, I never heard of anything like this before. Refresh rate shouldn't change unless the screen resolution changes.

Since CtP2 uses DirectX technology for the graphics, you could try installing the latest DirectX software.

                  Locutus,

via the monitors I actually got the refresh-rates.............

                  The directX I haven't re-installed, I'll give it a try, might help.

                  I know it is weird.

do a search on google for +"refresh rate" +"directx"

there are a few different utilities you can use to lock your refresh rates. They differ by what gfx card you use.

refresh rates arent set by the monitor, only the g-cards drivers right?

                        MrBaggins,

                        I gonna try...........

                        HuangShang,

I also thought that the driver (graphic-card) would be responsable for, but seems that the monitor has some influence as well...................

The Graphics card has drivers that have available resolutions, refresh rates AND color depths. The monitors ALSO have drivers that have available resolutions and refresh rates (not color depths tho...). To select a resolution/refresh rate, you need both gfx card AND monitor to have the resolution/refresh rate available.

Sometimes the monitor is not able to be automatically detected. Windows, in that case, uses a default monitor driver which has most res/refresh rates (but not all...)

DirectX in some cases, defaults to low refresh rates during games... like 60- thats the issue I was having. 60Hz looks nasty when you are running 1280x1024 on a 21" Sony F500R.

I found a refresh rate fixer and set it to 100Hz? (or so I recall?)

anyway... the utils work by setting the available res/refresh rate to one that you choose, so that direct x has no option but to keep it something reasonable.

                          Hope this all helps

When doing your proposed search, I found some nice links.

I think I gonna try this one. Gives couple of solutions.

According to this one, same as you explained MrBaggins, it could be due to the Monitor-driver in use.............

                            I'll let you know tomorrow.........
