  • Game crashes at later stages

I am in a later stage of CTP2 and whenever I load and use a particular saved file, the game crashes to the desktop. Details are as follows

    Dell 4300 desktop PC, 1.6Ghz, 512MB RAM
64MB Nvidia GEForce 2MX TV out video card
Creative Labs SB Live Value sound card
    40 GB IDE hard drive
    WinME

CTP2 details: "Impossible" difficulty level, "Huge" map, 8 empires.
The game works fine until a late point. Whenever I try to execute a turn from 2497AD, it quits to desktop and gives the error message

"Ctp2 has caused an error in CTP.EXE
    Ctp2 will now close
If you continue to experience a problem, try restarting your computer"

I have tried restarting the computer, changing memory setting, and even using a different game disk, without success, so I think it may be a problem inherent in the software. I have also tried shutting down everything I can in the right hand bottom taskbar (Zone Alarm, Norton Antivirus etc). I do not have EZDesk on my computer.

I loaded the game onto another PC (500MHz, 128MB RAM) running WIN98 and the game crashed to the desktop at exactly the same place in the game.

The problem did occur in a previous Ctp2 game using a "Medium" map, and I had to abandon that game. This one is very large and I have spent many hours on it, so I don't want to loose it.

Please help if you know of a solution. I am finding this very frustrating.

    Thanks

You didnt start the game with a different mod or without the patch or anything either and then try and load it with a different mod?

How big is the save file? Maybe you can zip it and post it as an attachment on the forum and someone can try and load it aswell.

Could be huge by that time in the game. Doesn't it usually finish at 2300AD? Could be you have a whole new end-game bug.
      Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

Yes the game ends in 2300AD. I have already heard about this end game bug but I have never been the victim of it.

Is it a bug of the original game or of a mod?

The problem happened with the original game, and continued to happen no matter what patches or mods I installed.

          Thanks for your help

You should create a new thread about the End Game Bug, I am sure someone will reply and help you Wendus. I can't as I have never seen this bug myself and because I don't know the inner workings of the program but I think the modders around here will have a solution.

            This game deserves it!
