  • CTP2 PBEM problems

Has anyone had any success in getting PBEM to work? I've edited the one file to display the PBEM multiplayer button, however the turn numbers do not increment in the saved game files, and game play does not seem to work properly in that past a player's first turn, they do not appear to have any movement options for their units and the game just flashes the "end turn" button.

I've seen lots of discussion here about MP, but it all seems to focus on Internet play. Anybody doing PBEM successfully?

Thanks for the message. I'm not sure what you mean by "not working", though. Certainly if you hack the appropriate ldl file, it *seems* to work. In fact, mechanically, it fires up just fine. What it doesn't seem to do, however, are the things I mentioned in my original message - so I'm curious if anyone is successfully using PBEM at all or if the problems I'm seeing are the Well Documented Reasons Nobody Is Using CTP2 PBEM.

DaveB, if I remember correctly, earlier this year the Apolyton forum (in general) was trying to get the PBEM option of CTP2 to work, but they ran into a brick wall - I believe it had to deal with not having access to the proper code for CTP2. So because of this, PBEM does not work in CTP2 (no one was ever able to overcome the problem - what ever it was). Sorry for the bad news but there you have it.

Was't Locutus(?) working on some mods to make PBEM diplomacy work in CtP2. I believe that was the main problem with it.

I found the thread where he mentions it, although it was last posted in in March!

              Oh...here's another one:

I wonder what the current status is, or whether he's given up?

AFAIK, Locutus still hopes to make it. CtP 2 is a great single player game, with the mods installed, if it could also be a great multiplayer game.

                      Just out of interest

What are the limitations of CTP2 to make it into a open-civ.

What are the areas that cannot be changed at all trough slic, texts and editing other files?

What is actually hardcoded into .exe

                      I presume 1 is AI,

what about graphics, thay cen be changed too it seems.

                      Is there anything else?

Activisiopn could just release the code, and give the power to the people once they have abandoned the project?

Activision wont release the code...tho flooding there Web site requests never hurt anyone ...

i think we can still do it through slic Can we!?

Perhaps diplomacy also doesn't work, but the game seems to suffer from more fundamental PBEM problems than that. See my original post.

Locutus. out of curoisity, would it be possible to use some of the PBEM codes from CTP to fill in the CTP2 gaps. I know its a long shot, but doing it through SLIC doesnt look like a reality. Besides, Ive seen stranger things made for CTP work for CTP2. tile improvements, Graphics, and among other things. The barbarian file.

(all with a tad of modification )

                            thanks in advnace

We could open a project on sourceforge
