Major Crashes

Please help, I am having major problems with crashes. My computer more than meets the recommended hardware profile (2.5 mb free hardrive space, rage fury ati vidcard, pentium II processor on windows 98), and I've installed the patch but it still crashes. And it seems to be getting worse. At first it was only when I attacked cities, then it was when I entered ruins. The last time I played it crashed before I had completed 1 turn when my Samurai walked down a road (in Samurai Scenario). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
