  • What's Your Biggest City

I have several (oh, about 6 or so) cities in my empire that are size 32. I can't get beyond this just yet because I need more improvement that help overcrowding. The cities' influences are still at a radius of three (not including the city tile), and I think that the manual said that you could get to a radius of five (but I think that includes the city tile).

Lets hear some stories. . .

sooo ummm... So you own the game I take it? Call to Power 2? I'm confused I can't tell if its out or not. I haven't seen it in stores and some sites say its out and others say its not.

      I have two above 35.

It's definately out. It came out on the 15th here in the US.

I have some cities that are size 46. Unfortuantely, until I get some more overcrowding improvements, I can't get much bigger. I've also been playing for 800 some-odd turns now.

And yes, the game is definitely out in the U.S.

I got my capital up to 50. Strange though, on the score chart it still says I don't have any cities larger than 500,000...

I have 3 at 31 and they are almost maxed out. I think it's about 1500 or so. I am working twoards hyrdoponic farms.

I just put in the drug stores and hospitals so I might be able to get them to 32 before I get the new food units. can't wait till the Cornicopic vat. (which I will still call a beef vat)

I've got 21 cities, two are underwater and are only at 46-48, the rest (19) are at 58-60. 60 is the max, they stop growing.

                They STOP growing?
Man, this is cute! Maybe it is also more real than unlimited growth (made possible by farmers) but it is still striking. Maybe it is so because I come from CivII and SMAC, where growth come through the food you harvest from tiles (exluding SMAC crawlers and satellites).
                Well, the stupid question is:
                why 60?

                Please don't answer "why not?"...

                  Zoning laws? :-)

I'm not sure why they pick 60, but there are a few other things that bugs me.

                  1) I liked the way that the city size was kinda exponential in Civ, i.e. size 1=10,000 size 2 = 30,000, size 3= 60,000......
(I call it an additive factoral (3+2+1) for all you math buffs)

                  Anyway, in CTPII city size 1= 10,000, 2 = 20,000, 3= 30,000 and 60 = 600,000! WIth 10,000 people for each increase in size.

I liked having cities of 8,240,000 or so in Civ. It seemed more realistic, and I was hoping that CTPII would allow me to building a city like Mexico City 18,000,000 or Tokyo 30,000,000. I thought that this would be a neat feature with the increasing city radius.

                  2) The scoring mechanism seems to have a glitch, for as I mentioned, I had 19 cities at size 56-60, i.e. population 560,000 to 600,000 and the game said that I had no cities over 500,000!!

What if you ended up with a huge city covering half the map? Cities have to stop growing at some time but the radi cand get more than 3 in each diredtion so if the pop kept growing they would starve.

My cities are a long way from starving. Even with the limit of radius of 4 tiles, I only use about 3 out of 60 to provide food for the whole city. What is happening to the rest of my food? That was one feature that I liked in CIV2, the ability to assign food from one city to feed another.

Why should it stop at 60 when I have abple food? Especially when 60 represents only 600,000 population!!!

city populations will stop at various points if you dont have the necessary + max pop improvements and overcrowding. .mine got stuck at 32 all over the place for a while. there is a major score bug that doesn't recognize cities in their proper population.. thats annoying but oh well. and why exactly does a city stop at 600000.. thats pretty weak if you ask me. especially with 45 squares of influence to work with. .considering i would regularly get cities of 45 or so in civ 2 with freight food caravans. .and that only had 21 squares of influence to work with and represented about 10 million people. ..i'd say 60 should be about 15-20 million or more, given the games future storyline of overcrowded and vast cities, if its to be a realistic city 'cap'.

I might have to look into that. it might be able to up the limits on the city size with out too much trouble.

I had cities over 100 in ctp 1.
