  • A couple questions

    1) Can the unit graphics be replaced EASILY (and I mean using 3rd party tools like Paint Shop Pro without having to open some god-forsaken pack file)?

    2) Can the graphics be static instead of 3d?

    3) Can every last graphic in the game be modified by users?

    4) Is the macro language in something understandable by those who haven't had 4 years of computer science?

    5) Will the player be able to cancel a unit's qued moves without having to issue a whole other set of move orders?

Also, is there a way to disable the non-sensical units (tv head man), priests, slavers and all the other rediculous units?

I was wondering when you were going to start complaining about CTP2 again - we've missed you. Not.

Unfortunately, I do have to agree with item number 5 - will there be a way to cancel a unit's queued moves?

Actually, I was thinking about starting a new thread myself about the graphics, since this was one of the things which kept a lot of people out of mod-making.

I think St Swithin answered the question about the macros earlier, when she stated that the flis were gone, replaced with text files similar to the unit text and so-forth.

Except possibly for graphics, I feel sure that people are going to find it much easier and straight-forward to modify Ctp2 than it was for Ctp1.
I expect for there to many more mods for ctp2 than there were for the original.

I'd like an activision response on my questions as it could reshape my view of CtP2 as these were the major beefs I had with CtP.

Well, OK, I'll answer what I can, but I don't have all the answers.

I'm sorry, I know nothing about the graphics system.

The one thing I do know, there is no 3D in this game, it's all 2D, what are you talking about?

            Sorry, don't know.

Well, it certainly doesn't require a bachelors degree to understand. But I'm not one to judge how easy/hard it is. I would say you need some programming skill, but not a large amount.

Yes, I'm fairly certain you can do this. But I don't have a copy of the game where I am, so I can't confirm it. I'll try to remember to check for certain on Monday.

I think by static instead of 3d they meant non-animated, ala Civ2. (I'm probably wrong again...).

I was dissapointed by the complexity of editing graphics, but the better the graphics in a game, the harder they'll be to customise.

Darthveda, the "non-sensical" units (slaver, cleric, infector, etc) are a feature very welcome in CTP1 (and I think what makes the game more interesting than some alternatives). Some people like to play the game in different ways, I prefer to use the special units rather than hordes of military units.

I believe I saw a thread somewhere..(I may not be correct though??)..That stated much like CTP:1..you can exclude what units you like..(In MP version versus single player)..However..you can allways play a single player online via the ipx..feature..this way you can play undisturbed ..as well as exclude whatever you like !

I find it odd that not all the workers know all about the game, they only know bits.

I remember when I was following the game Black and White, half of em knew only half of the game, the other half was just a blur.

Shouldn't it be important for the entire crew to understand how the game they're working on works and plays? knows everything about it?

If I was the producer, I would sure as hell want the entire crew to know every inch of the game.

ContradictioN: So if I was a graphic designer for the game (Who are artists that specialise in using computers instead of paintbrushes), by your theory I would be expected to understand the coding for the game engine, even though I probably have little to no experience in programing. Vice-Versa for the programers when it comes to the modeling of 3D graphics and their customizability. Sure, the developer/co-ordinator should know about both of these issues though maybe not to an in depth level as to be able to difinitavley say anything off the top of his/her head.

Now that the game has been released (in the U.S), can anyone answer the questions originally posed by Darthveda ?

Also - a couple more customisation questions - are there any extra (Blank) Unit Slots or extra (Blank) advance slots that can be added to the existing game ? That is, can you add extra units without deleting any of the existing units ?

I note that the recently released modpack for the Zulu units ( EB_CTP2_BONUS.ZIP ) replaces the Hoplite And Archer units.

                      Thanks
