  • Q: Can Borders be Negotiated?

    Well?

  • #2
I don't know the answer to this but I would like to say something. We already know they have an improved diplomacy system, so IF you can negotiate borders, i'll be the first person in Australia to buy this game.

I suspect not, partialy becuase of the way i understand boarders to work is that all players borders are based on a cities curent "land in use" footprint

If your curent border is based on all of your current cities curent population "Land in use footprint" a line of 4 size 1-6 cities your borders will look like this (the Capital leters are your curent border

      AAABBBCCCDDD
      A*AB*BC*CD*D
      AAABBBCCCDDD

Asuming that one of the cities becomes (say b) size 7(and adds Land to its "land in use" footprint,) then your border would probably look like this

      .....BBB
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      A*AB*BC*CD*D
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      .....BBB

If your opnet builds a city next to yours, say here
(the Small leters are your opontes teritory)

      .....BBBo<< oponents New city
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      A*AB*BC*CD*D
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      .....BBB

then his legal border and yours would look like this

      .......aaa
      .....BBBoa << %
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      A*AB*BC*CD*D
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      .....BBB

(%o is the "oponent City" a is his Land in use footprint)

Asuming for this example the next city to grow is C, then the Revised boarder will probably look like this:

      .......aaa
      .....BBBoaC
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      A*AB*BC*CD*D
      AAABBBCCCDDD
      .....BBBCCC

      And so forth,

now if the Boarders are based on each cities Max size, and not the curent "used space" then you have a whole 'noter can o worms, as you need to run and fill the map with widly scatered cities as quickly as posible

      hmmmmm

the games not released yet, and were already discusing strategies(sigh)

From the screen shots, it looks like borders do not grow with city size. They are instantly 4 tiles out.
