  • Choose the best name for our capital

Someone suggested I should give about four votes for the same person but since i dont have the power to know if one have only voted for four option (There can alway be a non-citizen messupper, or a not really fan of reading person ) and
    i want this finished soon.

So i have separate the names in groups. But you can only vote once. So choose the group which has the name you like the most

So vote wisely. The best voted names will concur in a new poll.

    Lemuria / Apolyton

    Apolymuria
    Apolyton/Apolytonia
    Apolytown
    Lemurtown
    Lemurcak
    Lemurkakton
    Poolemur

Western Historical (I added to mid-east ancient history and african here though)

Troy -> ancient city made famous by Homer’s account of the Trojan War
Timbuctu -> centre of commerce, science and religion of Mali kingdom in Africa; fabled for its riches in gold and the wisdom collected in the universities and libraries; name by far outlived the city
Babylon -> ancient Mesopotamian city of great riches, for almost 4 thousand years one of the biggest and most impressive cities in the world
Caral -> By far the oldest city in South America, in a river valley in Peru; only recently discovered, the find changed modern view of pre-Columbian history in America and civilization in general drastically, as it thrived on trade rather than on conquest; other than that, we know little about it
This -> first capital of ancient Egypt, founded after north and south were united by Narmer/Menes; effectively the starting point of the ancient Egyptian civilization
Acropolis -> Greek meaning, "city at the top"; it isnt on a mountain but it is "on the top" in some sense; its more a central defensive position inside a city, but it makes a good city name all the same too
El Dorado -> a city or country of fabulous riches held by 16th century explorers to exist in So. America
Paititi -> Incan name for El Dorado
Camelot -> in Arthurian legend, the seat of King Arthur’s court

    eastern

JingChen means the capital or a great city; often used to describe BeiJing by well everyone, and sometimes NanJing or Tokyo
XiJing exists in china, but its the single least know; its "capital in the West part of country"
BeiJing is north; the current capital where the current Communist Dynasty resides as well as the Qing, Ming, Jin, Mongol (Yuan) and other little(lesser) dynasties ruled from
NanJing is in the north part of the south. ÄÏ, spelled nan in alphabet, says its in the south, NanJing is a great city w/ a great history, one of the longest-running capitals
DongJing is east, most people call it Tokyo because thats the lauguage of the people living there; DongJing is a translation
Xanadu-> City from a poem about Kublai Khan
Honshu -> largest and most important island of Japan (location of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc)
GongYuan is a cool name. if ¹«Ô°£¬ it means a public park
but im aiming for a (sounds different but alphabets exactly the same) imperial court or imperial garden
do u know Yuan Ming Yuan?
    Xi'an
Dwaraka -> the site of the legendary (south-Indian) city of Lord Krishna, as described in the Mahabharata (epic similar to Ramayana)
Kishkindha -> A mythical city from the Ramayana which was ruled by a monkey king
Angkor Wat -> capital city of ancient Khmer civilization in Cambodia; HUGE temple complex, often called 8th wonder of the world

    Scadinavian

Valhalla: the capitol of the Scandinavian gods and resting place for the brave vikings who died in battle
Bilskirnir: the city of thor his palace had 500 rooms
Nóatún: the city of "vanir"(big strong betiful pepole) also the city of Njörð the seafaring and commercial god

Þrúðuvangur: the palace of Freyju the godess of beuty and passion

    Invented

GuoZhou - Chinese for "country's City"
DiYiChen is a desperate attempt to think up of more tight-ass names
Teflon -> very strong and resistant material, no clue what else it could be...
    Tallassar-> IW crazy mind suggestion
    Irenui IW crazy mind suggestion
Erebor -> A not precisely defined area in Near Eastern Middle-Earth; location of e.g. Lonely Mountain, Dale and Long Lake.
Gondolin -> Elven Kingdom in Middle-Earth
    Good Land

Totally invented cities can still be added as a suggestion in this thread until I say we have enough. But no other historical or literature fiction can be

This poll is weird. Of all suggestions I like Kishkindha, El Dorado, Xi'an, Timbuctu and Apolytown best. What should I choose?

I'm willing to give up on Apolytown, but the split of should have been between mythical and historical cities, not between west and east: that's extremely arbitrary (Timbuctu a western city? ) and makes no sense whatsoever...

Kishkindha works for me. (In the glaring absence of Lemur Poo!)

Oh, and Teflon is the non-stick stuff made by DuPont they use to coat frying pans with.

Locutus, Could you change my vote to Invented

The idea behind the way i make the groups was the way the names looke like.

You can easily see the similarity between the languages. Scandinavian with the funny symbols, eastern and the nasal sound (th use of 'n' after vowels), western (looks more normal to me since i am a western), and i dont need to talk about apolyton\ Lemuria, right?

Locutus The problem is that the names you like dont follow a pattern of language. Since you chose them because of their historical meaning. We just have different approachs since i want something to do with the spelling of the word and the way it sounds.

If you would choose a better system of voting you wouldn't have had to classify names by language pattern, which is still very arbirtary: there are HUGE linguistic differences between Kishkindha, Angkor Wat, Xi'an and Hongshu. Heck, if we'd use the native languages rather than the anglified forms, we'd be talking about four different character sets. Same goes for Paititi, Timbuctu and Acropolis... And Xanadu is actually a western name above all else, I can't think of any eastern language in which Xanadu would be a real word/name (if anything, it sounds African)...

What if 4 people vote for Western, 5 for Eastern, 2 for Scandinavian and 6 for invented? Then we have to choose for invented names while a majority (4+5+2) would have prefered a historic/mythical name...

It would have been much better if you had just let us choose between the individual names, rather than grouping them for us. The 'song festival' system we used for he flags would have worked well. Alternatively, you could have done it in 2 rounds, ala the Miss World election we had in the OT a while ago: there are 42 names, you could divide them in 3 groups of 14 (by alphabetical order) and let us pick the best ones in a mulitple choice poll, the best three or four from each poll go through to the 2nd round, where a winner will be picked...

For this poll, can you at least announce in advance when the vote will end? I must now wait until the very last moment so I can vote for those of the historic/mythical language groups which gets the most votes from others...

Locutus, i have to leav now but if you want you can close this thread and do this song festival - like idea. It does sound very a very good one. But try to diverse things a bit. I will accept it. If you dont this poll will still be valid
