            Militia

            Originally by HuangShang

            Well nothing. In more detail....

            A Minuteman is a Militia Unit corresponding to the Musketeer regular.

            A Rifleman is a Militia Unit corresponding to an Infantry regular.

            Militia Units will require logistical support or they die on the other hand they don't eat production or food from a city.

            In general Militia Units are less effective than their regular counterparts in attacking but slightly better in defense. They also will (in general) have less hitpoints than a regular.

            So for example:

            Warrior
            • Attack 10
              Defense 10
              MaxHp 10
              Shield Hunger 1
              Power Points 100

            Militia Warrior
            • Attack 8
              Defense 12
              MaxHp 8
              Shield Hunger 0
              Power Points 80

            The stuff I am playing with now allows a militia to stay in the field for 12 turns (12 weeks in the scenario-to-be) without re-supply.

            The Wagon Trains, cities, Forts and Fortresses provide re-supply to Militia Forces.

            Another aspect of Militia that I have not developed yet .. but am working on... They won't be built but will be called.
            Militia Units will appear in a city that has an armory when an enemy unit is inside the city resource radius.

            If The city has a Bell Tower Militia can be called when a foreign military unit is visible from the city.

            A dispatch_rider will be able to call Militia from a friendly city.

            A city can produce Militia Units = City size.
            Producing more will reduce a pop from the city.
            So a size 3 city can produce 3 + 2 = 5 units and remain a size 2 city.

            Rioting Cities without any active Militia Units may rebel and form rebel Militia Units to protect the City.

            I will probably cap off the pop reduction at 1 reduction. I'm still playing with ideas ... haven't coded this yet. What do you think?

              The Tea Act and Stamp Act are both British...
              At the moment I am inclined to have them increase Gold
              for the builder and Decrease regard in all possessed Colonies.

              I am certainly open to more suggestions for wonders for other civs and which ones from the standard game are appropriate for this scenario.

              I am also interested in thoughts on the tech tree for this scenario.

                    Hi, Talwyn

                    Nice ideas and it's good to see a 'noobe' moder turn up.

                    What are you doing for sprites? If you've got a proper sprite for a clipper ship I could really use it.

                    In your listing under 'Diplomacy', are these to be scripted events or proposals?

                    It looks like you've got a lot of interesting coding to do. If you post your work in progress, there's bound to be people who are willing to get involved.

                    BTW, the powerpoints field doesn't do anything (yet )

                    PS: dibs on the special effect where the British get to burn the White House down.

                      Brits or Canadians... Perhaps a special effect sprite
                      Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

                        Hmm, Well originally I thought to set them as additional proposals. Scripting them might be interesting but lend the impression of inevitability of events ... History seems to have left plenty of room for both sides to have avoided conflict if communication had been more clear and straightforward.

                        So I think the answer is : They'll be proposals.

                        As for Sprites... I thought I could create them ...isn't there a sprite-maker?

                        I thought I read that the power points help figure military power on the graph.

                        I definately do plan to post in progress... I have to learn quite a bit and this project looks like it'll touch every part of modding.

                        And I'll be glad to have the 'Sacking' of DC done by you if you like .

                            That's a sort of Urban Myth that's been floating around here for ages. But actually Mr Ogre cleared it up a couple of years ago:

                            (Mr Ogre)
                            It's for luck!

                            No, just kidding, it doesn't do anything. It was supposed to be a multiplayer option, you'd get X "Power Points" at the start of the game with which to purchase initial units and cities. It would have sped the start of the game a little bit, but there's a lot of stuff in this game and it was a bit unwieldly. Being able to set your starting gold is not quite as fast or cool, but works out about the same in the end.

                            (Talwyn)
                            So I think the answer is : They'll be proposals.
                            In that case I guess you're planning on recycling some of the existing proposals (Not a lot of need for bio/nano weapons agreements c1800.) An alternative would be to figure out how to add New Proposals. The Type variable in a proposal seems to be the name of a SLIC object but I've never been able to get any further than that. I keep thinking that either it's impossible or, more likely, there's something trivially simple that I've overlooked.

                            Perhaps a special effect sprite
                            What with my artistic ability? No, I was thinking of timers and special effects. Something like this:

                            Code:
                            HandleEvent(CaptureCity) 'WhiteHouseSpecialEffects' post {

                                city_t tmpCity;
                                location_t tmpLoc;

                                tmpcity = city[0];

                                if(CityIsValid(tmpCity)) {
                                     tmpLoc = tmpcity.location;
                                     if (tmpLoc == WashingtonLoc){ //WashingtonLoc being pre-set
                                          if (player[0].owner == 2){ // 2 being the British
                            		         AddEffect(tmpLoc, "SPECEFFECT_FIRES", "SOUND_ID_PILLAGE");
                            	          StartTimer(1,2);
                                                 EnableTrigger('WhiteHouseAfterEffect');
                            	         DisableTrigger('WhiteHouseSpecialEffects');
                            		  }
                            	   }
                                }
                            }

                            HandleEvent(TimerExpired) 'WhiteHouseAfterEffect' post {

                                if(value[0]==1){

                              Aha, I see.
                              I was thinking why use the "SPECEFFECT_EXPLOSION_LAND_1", when a "SPECEFFECT_WE_BURNED_THE_WHITE_HOUSE" is possible to make.
                              I'm sure somebody round here has some artistic ability.
