  • Converting CTP1/CTP2

How similar are the graphic formats for Call TO Power 1 and Call To Power 2? I mean, how would one go about converting, say, the Storm Marine for use in CTP2?

There is two types of graphics in ctp series:
-Sprites - what you atually see in the map with movements and all
    - And pictures - All picture you see in the GL or in othe Intrface screens

The sprite (wich are the most dificult to get) are exacly the same in ctp2 as it in ctp1. So just get the spriteID number in ctp1 and look for the GU** in the sprite folder and add an extra number to it (ctp uses 2 numbers while ctp2 uses 3) and it is ready to b used in ctp2. As for the marine you dont have to worry its sprite is already in ctp2 database as a unused sprite. I just dont have the number right now.

As for the pics are in tga format in ctp1 just like ctp2. yet ctp1 uses a lot of pics in differents sizes while ctp2 uses only three in the sizes of 160 x 120, 36 x 24 and 24 x 18.
So just resize them from ctp1 and again it is ready to be used.

      Actually, this is not true.

The CtP1 sprites were created using a slightly different compression method than the CtP2 sprites. CtP2 can handle sprites of both formats, so all CtP1 sprites will work fine on CtP2. CtP1, however, obviously can't handle the CtP2 sprite format, since this format is newer than the game itself. So CtP2 sprites will not work in CtP1. (And AFAIK there's no way to convert CtP2 sprites to CtP1 format.) Fan-made sprites were/are all created with the CtP1 Sprite Tool and therefore in CtP1 format, so they can be used by both games.

So as long as you're playing CtP2, you use all available sprites. In fact, as Pedrunn implied, all CtP1 sprites are included in the CtP2 files but they are not used by the game. You can find the list with sprite numbers here. If you want to use CtP2 sprites in CtP1 though, you're out of luck (but fortunately you can use the fan-made sprites that were intended for CtP2)...

Actual there is one but it is the long and stony way of creating screen captures. And the quality of the result isn't good either. So actual not a way to go.

Actual this is only true for the unit sprites, for the city sprites and good sprites (ok therfore you have GoodMod) and maybe for the special effect sprites (don't know if all CTP1 speacial effects are used in CTP2) you need CTP1. But I guess the unit sprites and CityMod2 or one mod that contains CityMod2 is enough for your purposes.

          One more issue.
If you want everything perfect. you must remember that the cpt1 unit pics background are black and ctp2 are orange texture-like. yet you can download the ctp1 all unit pics in 160 x 120 format here:

It is also included the ctp2 unit backgrounds for land, sea and air units.
