What kind of gifs you want?

I became all excited thinking that i could have animated gifs as pictures for advances, units....

But it didnt accept even non animated gifs

The game crashed in front of my eyes

You can only use *.tgas. The only animation is in the sprites.

pedrun the gun has not gone bang yet.

I was after the gif so I could make them into sprites for new kinds of attacks and my weather mod.

I can give you some rendered clouds I've been experimenting with in POV-Ray if you like. They animate fairly well. Sample attached:
