  • New scenario

    The Habsburg scenario is nearly finished. Real life keeps getting in the way (grrr) but I just need to add some tweaks.

    Does anyone know how to make the user only select one civ. The sceanrio was designed as a full game which means the player must be player 1 but how do I grey the other choices out?

    Also do I need a bit of Slic to detect the end of the game (turn 480) and trigger the GameOver messages?

    Finally, does anyone fancy play testing the scenario and suggesting changes? I haven't got a homepage so I'll have to e-mail it. If anyone is prepared to do it, it should be ready for the end of the week. Its set in 1519 on a gigantic Europe map, has 8 civs and lasts for 480 turns.

    I know the feeling...

    AFAIK you can't. In the Alex scenario this is possible but this is because this scenario was created with some Activision tools/build/whatever, which is different than what we fans have available. You'll simply have to tell in your readme that the scenario is intended to be played with the Hapsburgers (I think) and that, although possible, it wasn't designed to be played with any of the other civs.

    Also do I need a bit of Slic to detect the end of the game (turn 480) and trigger the GameOver messages?
    Simple (untested):
    Code:
    HandleEvent(BeginTurn) 'HAB_GameOver' post {
       Message(1, 'HAB_GameOver_M');
       GameOver(1, 2);   // human player looses, (1, 1) will make player win
    }
    I assume you can add the actual message (HAB_GameOver_M) yourself. If not, let me know.

    You already know my answer to that

      Locutus, you might want to put a line in that prevents that from making the human lose on turn 1...

      Code:
      HandleEvent(BeginTurn) 'HAB_GameOver' post {
         if(g.year >= 480){
             Message(1, 'HAB_GameOver_M');
             GameOver(1, 2);
          }
      }
      Does g.year get the real year (year * players) or the subjective year, according to the player?
      Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

        D'oh! Sorry 'bout that, it has been a long day...

        g.year returns the current round, so not year * players but just year (0 in 4000 BC, 1 in 3980(?) BC, etc).

          I'd actually just attempted to write some code to do just that. I was nearly right! I got the g.year bit but the rest of my code was over long and messy. Cheers guys!

          The SLIC is completed for version 1 of the scenario. I need to check the map, locations and units are ok (I a nagging feeling that the French and Ottoman cities are not protected yet) but otherwise its ready to test. Unfortunately I've got a weekend from hell coming up and really need to do some work...hence my cheek at asking for play testers.

          I'll finish the last minute stuff either tomorrow or thursday and then post details of whats in this version and what I'm leaving until version 2.

          Anyone who can spare the time to test (cheers Locutus ) just post a reply or e-mail me.

          Thanks Locutus and thanks IW for all your SLIC help, hope it was worth it!

            Well I remember in one of my scenarios getting to only selecting one civ to work if memory serves it is in the map editor on the empire tab select the right combo / button save the game and you get your one civ. Only problem is you have to keep doing it when you save.

              Should I be concerned. i've been stuck in a meeting all morning and I spent my time thinking of things to include in my sceanrio. This is not good at all!

              Cheers Big Mc I'll give it a go!

                  Cheers mate! I was hoping you'd offer!

                  Thats two playtesters now. Mind you I was banking on Locutus, he's responsible for most of the SLIC and can always spare a drone or two for playtests!

                      It'll be weekend at the latest and I'll probably e-mail it as I don't have a homepage. Once its ready to distribute I'll post a thread called Habsburg scenario, to let people know.

                              Excellent news and thanks once again Big Mc.

                              I finished the scenario last night so its ready to test. I need to be at home to e-mail the files so I'll do that this evening to you. I'll then post a thread to announce what is already planned for version 2 and what is in version 1...if you can add a post when the scenario is uploaded that'll be great!
