  • Help for Scenarioplaying on german gameversion

    Hi folks,
    I need you help!!!!!
I bought the german version of ct2 recently and tried to play the scenarios available here on the site.
The problem is that the game doesn't get started and crashes with an error at the .exe file.
Has any one a clue if there is anything that can be done about it to use the scenarios made with the us version on the german game version????
    Thanks,

    Lionel

Well, the most obvious thing that could be causing this is that all the language specific stuff for the mods and scenarios here at Apolyton is placed under a folder called 'english' while your German game uses the folder 'german' for this (or something similar). So you'll need to find the 'english' folder (usually [CtP2 main]\Scenarios\[scenarioname]\scen0000\english) and rename it to 'german'.

The only odd thing is that the game probably shouldn't crash with an error in the exe file but with a "can't find xxx in asset tree" error, but I could be wrong...

Locutus is right you have to do what he suggests. But the is a odd effect: For example if there an English Great_Library.txt in this folder you will play this scenario with an English Great Library and the same is true for every other gamefile in this directory. By the way for the future the complete error message would be helpfull. I mean the message which gives you the location of the error not the termination message.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I will try it this way and tell you the result.

          Okay Locutus and Martin,

I tried it the way you told me but it did not work.
first I created the followind folder tree:
          Hannibal/scen0000/german/gamedata
using my alexander scenario as model. Than i put in the folder german/gamedata the following files:
          Civ_str
          Feat_str
          GI_str
          Great_li

(The problem is also that when I downloaded the Hannibal scenario from the Apolyton site I just got the files without the folder so that I first had to try to figure out what folder I need and what to put in them.)

Annyway when I then started I still got my crash with following 2 error messages:

            Hallo Lionel

To decompress *.zip files I use winzip.exe oder winrar.exe usually. I hadn't any problems to install the scenario, because the folder structure is saved in the *.zip file. Now here is the list of the files:

These files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\ directory:

            Book1.xls
            packicon.tga
            packlist.txt
            Spqr
            SPQR README.TXT
            spqr.jpg
            Thumnail for Omni.txt

These files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\scen0000\ directory:

            savegame.c2g
            scenario.txt
            turnlength.txt

These files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\scen0000\default\aidata\ directory:

            AdvanceLists.txt
            Goals.txt
            personalities.txt
            strategies.txt
            UnitBuildLists.txt

These files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\scen0000\default\gamedata\ directory:

            Advance.txt
            AdvanceLists.txt
            age.txt
            Agecitystyle.txt
            buildings.txt
            cityid.txt
            citysize0.txt
            citysize1.txt
            citysize2.txt
            citysize3.txt
            citysize4.txt
            citysize5.txt
            citystyle.txt
            civilisation.txt
            concept.txt
            Const.txt
            DiffDB.txt
            feat.txt
            feats.slc
            goods.txt
            goodsID.txt
            govern.txt
            newsprite.txt
            Pop.txt
            risks.txt
            scenario.slc
            terrain.txt
            tileimp.txt
            uniticon.txt
            Units.txt
            Wonder.txt

All *.tga files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\scen0000\default\graphics\ pictures directory.

All *.spr files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\scen0000\default\graphics\ sprites directory.

These files go to the ..\Scenarios\hann_spqr2\scen0000\german\gamedata\ dirctory:

            civ_str.txt
            feat_str.txt
            gl_str.txt
            Great_Library.txt

By the way you can also use the standart directories tas a model for rebuilding the folder structure.

              Hi folks,

Just for the record, I wanted to tell How the problem was finaly resolved.
In fact the problem layed with my old unzip program withj was unable to handle the folder tree accuratly.
With the latest version of winzip, I unzip the scenario files again and then it worked without problem.

              Thank everyone

              Lionel
