  • Lock some Advances

    Hi
i want to know if it possible to lock some of the advances, and how ?
In that way i'll be able to built a scenario that will stop in the middle age time, or a WWII scenario.

    Thanx

You can increase the cost of the advances that you want to lock out tenfold or more - depending on what age you want to stop at (increasing Ancient Age advances will take a greater bump in cost as opposed to Modern Age advances). This will prevent a player from getting to those advances - or at least make it take a very long time to do so. Do this in the Advances.txt file.

The nice thing about this is that you only have to do it to a few key advances - as long as you get all the ones that will prevent you from getting to the next level.

Hope this helps - now back to work! (It's nice having online access at work)

You can delete advances from advances.txt, making them unusable. However if you are doing this on a large scale hex's idea is better because deleting them means from:
      advances.txt
      uniticon.txt
      AdvancesList.txt (AI)
      units.txt
      buildings.txt
      wonders.txt
      feats.txt
      feats.slc
      probably some more

NOTE: the gl_str.txt and Great_library.txt don' matter, you can leave extra stuff in there.

It is however, the only way to ensure that you completey remove all possibility of researching stuff you don't want in the scenario.

I don't agree with this part, cause if you cut some of the technologies for a scenario in advances.txt, but leave these records in the GL it could be very confusing for anyone playing the game.
Since I worked on these EXACT parts in the Med mod, I can also help you in that scenario of yours if you want...

If you leave extra stuff in Great_library.txt, but don't reference it in uniticon.txt, then it doesn't appear, and does not interfere with the game-play at all.

            Oh, sorry. Didn't know that.
but still, I think that making the GL as clean and as clear as possible is very important.
