What's the deal with the cityid.txt? From what I can tell, it's just a numbering of the city sprites, but not their sprite#'s. What's the point of it? and why are the Asian and Roman cities in one row while the the arab cities are in another? Does this file do anything that I should be concerned with when making a scenario that changes the city sprites?

Those are left overs from CTP1.
Seems like the Activisions programmers knew about the importance of mods and left to CTP2 almost all files from CTP1 includind terrain improvements, unit sprites, slic functions and (as the one you found) text files.
Just dont bother with it. It does not mean anything.
The only use i can think for it is reference when getting stuff from CTP1. Only that."Kill a man and you are a murder.
Kill thousands and you are a conquer.
Kill all and you are a God!"

That's kind of what I was asssuming, because I seem to recall reading about leftovers from CTP1 in another thread. One thing that I do know about this file, however, is that the game can't function without it. (I actually tried to start a game without it present, and baboom the game wouldn't start because it couldn't find cityid.txt )

Thats kind of funny.
Thats because it is in the gamefile.txt data although it is useless.
As the others obsolete file.
I am almost sure that if you take its line off the gamefile.txt it wont change the game."Kill a man and you are a murder.
Kill thousands and you are a conquer.
Kill all and you are a God!"

So thats how the game recognizes what is wonder, what is unit and what is building.
I always wondered since in the language gamedata folder things can be more freely organized (eg. Like having all lines in one txt file) while the default game thing are more strict (eg. you MUST have the buildings in building.txt).
I always thought this was due to the prefix IMPROVE_*, WONDER_*, UNIT_*, CONCEPT_*, ADVANCE_*,... (Yet i always thougt something was wrong with this point of view.
Thanks for clear that up to me, Martin
PS: I hope i am correct

And the game will also know what gamefile it is depending on wich position it is in the gamedata.txt.
This is what i am guessing.
--By the way first we have to talk about the fourth trophy before we can go to fith one.

The only countries that have four world cup is Brazil and Italy. Germany comes right behind with three.
We are playing for the fifth now to get the world cups lead again.
(Actually we have none, since the the trophy is temporary)

To go back to CTP2, what about a periodicly occuring event, called football world team cup (don't know how it is actual called in English). You could train your team and if you get the cup your civ would get a happiness bonus for x turns.

"Congratulations, our migthy country have won the soccer world cup. We are the champions. Our amazing atlhetes parade have been watched by thousands. Are people is extremly happy. You will get a x bonus in happiness."
This event can be called olympics in the early ages, cavalry disput in middle ages."Kill a man and you are a murder.

sounds very possible pedrun
sorry I am from now on supporting Germany I just want to see that grin of your
could be part of a bigger squad like bullied a football stadium in your civ and you get the chance of getting a better player.( not to mention when you get the genome project)
then have money for training how much you are going to set aside for them and if you host it you also get a boost."Every time I learn something new it pushes some old stuff out of my brain" Homer Jay Simpson

Being that I'm American, I'm still a little miffed that we couldn't make it past Martin's countrymen in the quarter finals
...but, making it to the quarter finals was actually quite impressive for us, considering that to most Americans, football is a game that involves putting on pads, and tackling the person with the ball before they make it to the endzone...
