  • Roman scenario

I threatened to put something together for a Roman scenario so here we are. Comments and ideas please? I'll make a start sometime next week as I've a RL situation this weekend. I must get round to the 80 years war scenario I have in mind as well.

    Tigger

    CAESAR Scenario

    - Dates: January 56BC to August 14AD.
    - Turns: 924. Each month is a turn.
    - Based on the history of the Roman Empire.

    Civs:
    Caesar
    Pompey
    Crassus
    Gauls
    Perthians
    Dacians
    Numidians
    Barbarians

    - Starting situation:
    - Start with all established Italian cities, Cisalpine Gaul and Illyricum
    - Size: 8?
    - Starts with Granary, City Walls, Ballista Towers, Aqueduct, Shrine.
    - Start with 1 hoplite.
    - Start with pre-established governments. (Monarchy or Tyranny)

    - Gameflow Aims:
    - To simulate the political, economic, scientific and military upheaval during the fall of the republic.
    - To allow for a game full of diplomatic intrigue, alliances, betrayals, aggressors, defenders.
    - To allow the player to have a full-length game based on classical warfare using ground and sea forces common to the period.

    - Features:
    - Limited tech tree based on the period (Classical).
    - No wonders of the world.
    - Variety of units based on the period.
    - An AI that attacks, defends, researches and is diplomatic according to their personality.
    - Historic events like rebellions, mutiny and piracy.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Units:
    Land:
    Warriors
    Hoplite
    Phalanx
    Archer
    Horsemen
    Roman Legion
    Chariot
    Catapult

    Sea:
    Caracle
    Trieme
    Galley
    Merchantmen

    Special:
Caesar (if killed after 47 BC– Octavian)
    Pompey
    Crassus

    -------------------------------------------------------------
    Diplomacy:

Gauls hate Caesar, Pompey & Crassus
Parthians hate Caesar, Pompey & Crassus
Barbarians hate Caesar, Pompey and Crassus

    -------------------------------------------------------------
    Events:
    Gaul revolts
If Pompey or Crassus dies the other creates civil war on Caesar
If Caesar conquers Gaul then Pompey and Crassus hate you (civil war? Not sure yet)
Civil war means all Italy is lost bar Ravenna
Civil war ends when special unit dies
Octavian created if over 16 when Caesar unit is killed
At 30BC Caesar dies and Octavian created
Octavian means Mark Antony is created….civil war
    Pirates (random barbarian sea units)

Pardon my ignorance, but (roughly) how will this compare with the SPQR scenarios (which are 200 years earlier). I've heard good things about the Dacian War scenario, and nothing about the Hannibal's War scenario (which apparently never left the Beta stage).

Shortage of Hard disk space means I've never played them Hermann but I've noticed they were there. So I don't know how the scenario compares at all.

Well, that means you have a clean slate to work on, and your period is significantly later. Best of luck on developing it!

Once again, sounds great Perhaps you should add the Germans, Nabataeans and/or Armenians as well (perhaps even Thracia and Pontus too)?

Its something I had considered Locutus but I must confess up to now I've only ever used 8 civs and in this scenario the romans take upo 3 civs between them. I could cheat and combine Crassus with Caesar as historically I don't think Crassus would ever have taken Caesar on...but then that was the point of his Parthia campaign, to prove himself as a general in order to challenge the others. I think maybe I should just start dealing with more civs. I could go up to 32 after all.
