  • How about this: The SUBURB Tile Improvement!

We've talked about how to make a city really "Grow" so that it would be bigger than a single tile. It hit me a littler earlier - maybe we should have a Suburb tile. That way, when you start seeing that negative red overcrowding line, you could move it down by placing suburb tiles outside your city. How effective they are (how much effect they have) is based on how many specialists are assigned (this makes sense - speciallists represent people assigned to specific city functions. By their very nature, they would work in the city, so the more specialists you have, the less effectvie the 'burbs are).

This would be really cool, since you would be vying for that precious close-in territory with farms and mines, which might mean that the farms would eventually be pushed further out. Or you might adapt a bedroom community stratagy, with some small communities placed further out.

The only question is if the AI could be programmed to do this.

BlueO's City expansion mod was sort of like that. Towns appeared as cities grew larger, and eventually cities themselves would expand. You should take a look at this mod, though in examining the files I have no idea how he did it.

If anybody could post something on how to ad new tiles (or any hidden gold in the tilesetindex) or tile improvements I would find it very useful.

"It is ridiculous claiming that video games influence children. For instance, if Pac-Man affected kids born in the 80's we should by now have a bunch of teenagers who run around in darkened rooms and eat pills while listening to monotonous electronic music."

BlueO used good graphics for the suburbs. He used slic to terraform the terrain under the future suburb. He replaced the terrain by a terrain with less productivity and planted a good on it.

For adding new terrain graphics you will need a little bit patience right now. To add tile improvement graphics right now search for a thread entitled Basic Information. That's possible without editing the gtset565.til file. If you want to modify the terrain and tile improvements. Take a look into the terrain.txt and the tileimp.txt there you will find lines like BonusGold and BonusProduction.

By the way creating tile improvements by slic, I need an example script that add on every tile that has a trade good a tile improvement. I can release GoodMod this slic but it would be if it would be in.
