I've been checking it out. If one of your workers gets slaved your are notified with a message. Still one of my towns (I'm sure of it, I checked it in the top 5 cities), grew to a population of 3 workers, two turns later, I was back at 2 workers in that town :-(. Are there situations where you could lose workers in a town ?

Did you build a settler in that town? Because as soon as you build a settler you lose a worker. Thats why you should time your pop growth with settler construction. This keeps your worker pop from decreasing.
