well, there went my favorite nations!
k- put me down for egyptians in this mammoth game ok?
but, has anyone thought about how long it would take?
after all, if we all get one day per turn, that means 32 days for just one turn right?
unless we move simultanously.....
also, the diplomacy is a bit weak, anyone else think we should mainly use e-mail or ICQ to do diplomacy instead?

I belive the game will play a turn per day, with all of us moving and then submiting our moves once per day.
We can bypass the diplomacy altogerther for most things, except like trade and map exchanges, etc.. All other stuff can be handled by e-mail or chat. Makes sense, if I got one of you guys on my terrain, I would e-mail you to quit it, for example.

Hey guys,
I would like to join this monster game of 32 Civilizations. I would prefer to be the Irish, but since unlike Alpha Centauri there are no advantages or disadvantages to your civ I am willing to play any of them.
In response to kmj email games are fairly easy. At the end of your turn you will be promted to save and exit. It is a good idea to give a unique and clear name such as
"CTP3Turn4Hebrews" if, for instance the game you are playing is "CTP3" it is turn 4 and the player you are sending the turn to is playing the Hebrews.
After exiting the game open "my computer" go to the saved games file, right click on the appropriate file and select "zip to file".
(If you do not have a zip program you can download one from the web).
I send my zip files to a seperately created file outside the game. You could simply send it to "my documents".
Send an email to the next player and attatch the zip file to the email. The recieving player will unzip it to the save file in the game program. Then when he starts the game he will go to multiplayer, choose hotseat/play by email game and load the turn.
At this point there will be password protection to keep everyone honest.
To keep everyone abreast of what is happening it is a good idea to email all the players and tell them you have sent your turn to the Hebrews.

hmmm, PBEM game with 32 players sounds like it'll be a nightmare!
how can we get 32 people to read their email, download a file, unzip, make their move, the rezip and upload the file to the next player.
Sounds like realisticlly we could expect to get 1 turn in every 3 days.
Is there an easier way? I was hoping for some sort of simultaneous move like in Civnet.
but I guess in the long run it'll be worth it, but what could you do about the inevitable drop outs if we have passwords implemented?

The best way to avoid meltdown as far as passwords and drop outs is to have the host collect everyone's password at the begining of the game. That way a replacement can be found. In Alpha Centauri if a game is saved more than once all players recieve a notice about that on the next turn. That keeps the host honest. Besides he can really only look at the next player's turn unless he cycles through all of them and that would just multiply the notices. Why cheat anyway? It is a game. There is no shame in loosing only in not trying to win.
