  • chatting during the game

Is it possible to chat with your human opponents during a multiplayer game? The manual for this game is unforgivably bad. I suppose that's how they can sell strategy guides. But I digress...I started a multiplayer game last night and had to call my opponent on the phone when I wanted to talk to him. Is there a chat feature during the game? Do I have to wait until our civilizations meet?

    Thanks.

I haven't found any yet. How annoying, but then again I play on a LAN, so I can turn my head and talk.

Just another reason to open up the source.

Not only is it possible to talk publicaly during a game, it is possible to talk privately also. By pressing ' - apostrophe - a chat window will pop up. There are two ways of removing this window - 1st without typing anything push Enter - 2nd click on chat window making and push '

Unknown to most players you can talk privately during a game. For example in the chat window write:
        /msg 1 Hello player one

"/msg" goes first everytime you want to send a private message. After that you place a number. If you want to talk to player 1 type in a space after /msg and put the # 1. If you want to write to player 2 then it would look like:
/msg 2 Speed up your turn!
How do you know who is player 1 and who is player to? Push Ctrl + n, the first person on the list is player 1, the second person is player 2, and so on.
After the number, there should be another space and then you write your message there, perfect for secretly planning against your enemies.
For my the second example it would look like this to the other person:

        P)(Dawe) Speed up your turn!

Only he would get that message, and everyone else would be oblivious to it.

Yes, I believe this information is in a read-me file on the disc, if I remember correctly. I know I searched both the manual and the strat guide and found nothing.
The above info is abosolutely correct tho
