If you think they were undefended, then you are wrong. I will not make that mistake again (as in our first challenge).

All cities were defended with 2-5 units, most had pikemen and many had cannons too. Else I would have taken my "lost" cities back from the Scottish without much problems.

But I pushed my luck too far - science was near 5000 each turn (2 modern advances in 5 turns) and I had just exchanged railroad with my AI-neighbour and discovered electricity myself when I failed to take sufficient care of my economy.
