    What is this Pete?

I know your point of view on the subject and I respect it and I guess you know mine but shouldn't you first let Solv know about it or discuss it with him first?

tell you what: I think when you start playing you like the idea of being ranked, but when you start playing and this guys keep kicking you, then you understand that you like this game, no mater each game you start you never end one

... so a ranking system need a lot of games going on with a fast move to keep you motivated by see your name on the rank, but if you have a game with a turn every week , some day you forgot you are in the rank

My opinion is better to have a history list where each player can have it's own record of win/lose and with who he played, maybe writting what he had learned from those games, so other players can read the way of play of other, learn tips or check what he did wrong to lose.

The whole idea has been discussed with solver. My intent here is to find out what people really want.

Ber has contributed to that, thanks Ber.

As you know Keygen half the games are not being reported so why?

Do people really want a ranking system? Thus the poll...
Seems like the logical first step.

While I got to respect you Blackice, it's not quite the first step. In the light of fact that we've been having the system going for almost two years now, I think it's pretty obvious people do want them...

I think the main problem is no one can be bothered to post the x9 ratings. Also, for some people the rankings don't mean much. To me, the ranking mean how good a player is, but it is subjectable to mistakes, like no turn posting. Because some people can't be bothered, it means that the rankings dosen't give the whole picture on CtP PBEM.

Surely it should be the Moderator's job, and not the anchorman's job to post the x9 turn rankings.

What I suggest is that we should have someone who collects all the x9 rankings from the Game threads (as posted by the moderator) and then give them to blackice. Surely this would be more reliable than the current system of collecting rankings, as players seem to come and go.

Blackice, I think the question isn't "Do people want the rankings" The question is "How do we make it more reliable than it currently is.

                I agree completely with ber!
That is exactly the way I felt. It was fun when the turns were coming every few days. Then they started to trickle off and people began fogetting to submit the rankings on the x9 turns altogether.

Edit: cool! This is my "Emperor" post!

Emperor? Well only 6000 post yet to Deity.

Blackice and others: Sorry to be rude. I have voted for waste of time.

You all know - or are able to guess - why.

                    But I repeat:

Any player, who want their skills to be compared with other players SHOULD BE RATED IN ANY AND EVERY GAMES HE/SHE IS IN.

Of course only rated players counts.

If one game has only one rated player, well there are no changes/reports. If a rated player drops in as replacement, the game starts reporting ratings, ignoring all unrated players.

                    That is so simple.

What system to be used: I do not care.
First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.

Pete, the current status of the ratings is awful indeed but only because we neglected it and couldn't agree on a widely accepted system and set of rules. I tried to help in both setting some rules and make the discussion work but I got ignored and only witnessed the continuance of flames and non-leading anywhere long arguments so I rested my case

We should had paid more attention and now perhaps we wouldn't discuss it at all
