  • Different lanuages

Once again it appears I will have to leave a game because I can not read the messages.

This is obviously a huge disadvantage as diplomcy can not happen in the game. Every message you receive is unreadable.

What if anything should or can be done about this.
We are all aware that the english version is available in most every country in the world.

We are all aware that every player that plays here speaks english, obviously.

So here is a poll any ideas are welcome.
    6
    Make all games english

Find another player that speaks the lanuage to play

    Ignore it

    3
Ask the player if it is ok as they will be the disadvantaged one

I was unaware you could copy and paste the information from the message fields in the game?

Or do you mean to write down every message then type them into the translater?

In this case all six of them?

          I voted "Ignore it".

Simply because we are not that many players and we can't demand everyone only to use english.

Now I am able to understand most of the messages - and if not understand, then I'm at least able to guess. I think there will only be a few games, where you really will be in doubt.

Else: SEND AN EMAIL AND ASK, DAMN IT! No reason to turn red in the head just because everything is not english and only english!

          Thats my opinion.

The information is all information from other players and your own civ information BTW.

So all information in the game is in the other language.

I have had french one year in school some 30 years back - yet I did not have problems playing after Zobo. Or Stavros who used a german version (my last german lesson in school was even longer back).

Oh you mean ask them to translate all your civ information and diplomacy with other civs, in the game? Or do you mean learn every single language the game can come in?

Are you saying the game is international and in order to play it we all need to speak all these languages or guess?

Seems to me if we all spoke our native languages here in the forum it would be quite messy. It also seems to me all players here speak english. Not all speak several different languages. It also seems to me the vast majority of players have the English version.

Since English seems to be known by all players here why not keep the games that way? The forums are in English...

CTP cost's like $10.00 Cnd. Right now.
I can send the English version to anyone that needs it no problem. Be at you door in days.

Other than that seems to me it is a huge disadvantage not knowing what the heck is going on with your civ and diplomacy is a waste of time. Unless of course you guess...

I admire the Europeans they have a need for learning different languages we here do not and all languages including french are optional here.

Seems to me you are the perfect player to play after these people. Some of us simply do not have several languages under our belt. To me it is all gibberish and it takes a large chunk of the game away.

Hey - send one to me. I will even pay for it. I can start new games, but I can't reinstall it anymore (fault on the cd by 92,8% ).

And one for Faded at the same time - but I will not pay for that .

Blackice, I have an OPINION and once again, just mine, BUT HERE IT IS!!

If you, Blackice or whomever wants a game and someone is communicating in another language, intentionally then that is plain RUDE and SHOWS IGNORANCE but, if they only communicate due to that being their respective language, then thats a different and acceptable situation, which I would simply back out and find another game. NOW, if they can speak in a uniformly acceptable and understandabley accepted language, but choose not to, then I would also leave, and simply not return.

I believe that their are enough players out here to keep games going without letting this be a stumbling block

I wouldn't sweat it Bro, move forward and let the fur go with the hide, kick it to the curb and move forward!

                      ~Peace~

P.S. Dont let others make you one of theirs!!!!!!

I agree, now Solver has a plan according to him he can make it so only diplomatic messages from him are in a different language.

I that case no problem, since he sends me the turn he can include the message in English so I may view it.

The situation was that all information in the game was in German, that is simply unplayable.

I can imagine how far we would get here if all games were played in several different languages.

So I submit if anyone needs the english version of the game email me and I will send it.

Since we all speak English it is the logical choice.

I appears the people who voted ignore would either give up the game or miss out on half the game.

Seems to me a solution has been found by not ignoring it.

They must be multilingual I ask would these people go out and buy a version of the game that was not in a language they understood?

Seems rather a stupid thing to do.

Bottom line as Troll pointed out if you have a version of the game in another language at least be kind enough to ask if they understand it and if it messes thier game up.

Give the person a hand with diplomatic messages and make sure it is only thier diplomatic massages that are being affected. Other wise it is rude and inconsiderate.

OK... Blackice, you played that turn? As I say, subsequent ones should be OK, and I'm sorry for the hassle I caused... well what can you do about my game .

No problem I just gave a tech away I never would have.

I am sure if it is fixed and you send the english version of your diplomacy all will be fine.
