2. Playing
So, you're impatient to start a game of CtP right now? Sorry, but you'll have to stock up with patience a little bit. If you read this section, it will give you a better idea of what the main types of games are, and how to start one.
There are two types of games in Call to Power, Online games and Play-by-Email games (PBEM for short). Online games are played much the same way as most other multiplayer games are - several players are connected to a game server at once, and they're playing their turns at the same time. It usually takes two or three 4 hour sessions to finish a game (online gamers, correct me). If you're on a modem connection, it's highly possible that you will not be enjoying such a game, also, you are connected all the time to the Internet, so it will also cost you.
This is why the second type of games, PBEM, is so popular. PBEM games generally take many months to complete, but you can well be in several at the same time, and also it has some nice advantages, like the roleplaying that is done by players. Here's how PBEM works: game started creates the map, usually gives each player a quick start pack, like 5 Settlers and 3000 gold, and the turn is travelling by email. Which means, you will receive the turn in your mailbox, as an attachment, which you open, and play a turn. One turn. After it's finished, a savegame is put on your desktop that you attach to a message and send to the next player, the one after you. In a fast game, you can count on receiving a new turn every day. PBEM games usually have moderators that receive a copy of each turn - in case the game gets stalled, they are responsible for finding where the turn is, and what action is to be taken.
If you want to participiate in an online game, you are supposed to post in the CtP Internet Ratings thread. There you'll be informed of current happenings in online gaming.
Should you want to play a PBEM game, it's suggestable to post in the Youngblood Recruitment Center, where you will be informed if a substitute is needed in any current game. If yes, you can probably get to playing pretty soon, otherwise you'll have to wait till a new game is started, for several days. Yes, starting a PBEM game isn't that quick, but you will be dragged in it.
3. Players
We have about 70 active CtP players, and here's a list of some of them with their emails. You can be using this list to send turns to players, if you're in a PBEM game. Taken from the Email thread.

4.FAQ
Sorry, I'm not splitting it into sections yet, but possibly will later. In any case, there are many of the questions we get asked, and possibly the answers to them .
Q: When I try to connect to game servers, it just keeps looking for servers all the time
A: This problem is well known and is associated with the servers.dat file expiring. You need to get a new version, ask someone to send it to you. I can not post it here, because the servers.dat file expires over time -- so this copy would also become uselesss over time. After you get the file, replace the current servers.dat file you got with it.
Q: Which is better, online gaming or PBEM?
A: Refer above to the Playing section. Neither is better. It depends on how you want to play, as well as your connection and money. PBEM can go with any connection, doesn't need money, and games go on for many months. Online gaming required a pretty good connection to enjoy, and you need to pay for all the hours of stating online. The games end fast enough.
Q: What's with all those ratings? What are they, and how did they originate?
A: In October 2000, a ratings system has been proposed, so that all of the games would get rated, and a table of players and their scores would be kept. The system was pretty well accepted, hence it's in use now, too. The basic idea behind PBEM ratings are that, each 10 turns, a look at the powergraph is being taken, and the powergraph standings are reported to the current thread. Then, calculations are done using the ratings formulas on a regular basis, and new ratings get posted. Well, at least it's supposed to be regular, but it isn't so always.
The idea behind the Internet ratings is similar, but the ratings are calculated after a game is completed, not after every 10 turns, because Internet games end much more faster than PBEM ones.
Q: Do I have to be rated in order to play?
A: No. If you wish, you can continue unrated, in all of your games, or in the current one. To do so, just state your wish when entering a game.
Q: Why do players get different initial scores?
A: The initial score for the ratings is based on the highest level of AI you've defeated in a Call to Power single player game. If it's Deity, you get 21 point, 19 for Emperor, 18 for King, 17 for Prince, 16 for Warlord, 14 for Chieftain.
Q: Whom do I contact about any ratings questions?
A: If you mean Internet ratings, blackice is in charge of those.
As for the PBEM Ratings, Solver is responsible for those.
If you got any special questions about the ratings, or need someone to make judgment over an unclear event, contact either Blackice for Internet and Solver for PBEM Ratings, and your questions will be answered shortly.
Q: What may I post on this forum?
A: This forum is intended for you to post any Call to Power Multiplaying questions, suggestions, game requests, etc.
Q: What may I not post here?
A: Any kind of adverising, or anything other classified as spam. Also, personal insults against other forum memebers are not tolerated. No sexual discussion is allowed, too.
Q: Who monitors the activity here to be legal, and what action will be taken?
A: The forum is moderated by Solver. Action to be taken in case of rule violation is up to him to decide, and these can range from a warning to a ban from the forums, temporary or permament. Permament bans, however, are rare and are the last resort.
Q: I don't like the rules / I don't like moderator actions.
A: If you got a problem with any of these rules, or the action that the forum moderator has taken, you're supposed to post a new thread in this forum. Or, you can directly contact either of the Apolyton site owners - MarkG or DanQ.
