Actually what you saw on the pg was a mass buy of markets for all cities...until then you had a huge lead remember? While rivers can not be underestimated fisheries and mines rule...
As you can see by the attachment you had pg all the way, plus city size. The big difference is markets, you built granaries I never do I buy markets. I had but three more cities than you But if you look at what was bought, built there is the difference.
Mircomanagement is also key here I figure I would have factories by about turn 60 built...You had troops I had mills big difference here is the game cheack it out in cheat mode. The other big difference is I built cities close to each other. When I hit size two in this game I switched to production and built a settler. I have muskets in 4 turns I think roads on the way. :0)
None the less Swissy is right terrain makes a huge difference. Do not accept crap terrain in league games. Both players should take the time to find the best start zone. Pain in the but* sometimes but well worth the effort as you both will have a superb game
