But I find that in most games that have a moderator, people don't bother notifying of every turn. The moderator can look after late players and keep accurate records of where the turn is.
Posting every turn played for all 11 games I play in would more than double the time I spend here every day, and greatly reduce the joy I get at seeing each turn. I wouldn't keep playing if I dreaded the work involved with each new turn.
That said, I will try post here after every turn I receive in this game, at least until it has a new moderator.
Well, I really don't care if you break "my" rules as long as I don't have to do double or triple work because of that.
There was a discussion thread for any recommendations or objections regarding the PBEM rules but got vanished along with all old threads.
Nobody seemed to have any objection all this time so I supposed that either didn't care or found them fair.
Also the rules (also vanished) had a sentence that noted that any rule can be excluded if agreed by all participants in a game.
As long as the moderator (Darth Viper) doesn't have a problem with that you are free not to post anything at all.
Besides this game had a moderator from the very beginning but we are still on turn 26 after 6 months of playing
For the record it takes me about 1 minute to access and post "Turn x sent to z" in the thread from my poor 33.6Kbps connection or about half a minute from my work. Even if I was receiving all turns from all 15 games I play every day it would take me 7-15 minutes to post. But I receive 2-5 turns per day.
Now if your connection is worst than mine and you do receive 10-11 turns per day then you're absolutely right and truly everyone that has a very slow connection don't need to post at all. Just write an additional email notification that the turn has been sent.
Just an explanation behind the logic of turn posting.
It is an additional work that should be done for three reasons:
a) Turn tracking when the turn is lost.
The moderator might not be available when needed because of limited time or any other reason.
During moderating there were instances that I had too much work or computer problems and games were stuck and the players had to trace where the turn was.
Many people do not send the turn to the moderator at all so it make it very difficult for the moderator to trace the turn if the game is stucked.
I remember when a game I moderating had stucked. There was 2 days with no turn. There was no turn post in the thread for the last turn. I resent the turn to the last player but he informed me that he had played and sent that turn. I send him an email asking him to send me the turn. He did. Then I forward the turn to the next player. He said that he play it too. We lost one and half day on that
b) Games tend to die or stuck when people don't post. This is not my belief. It is a fact. Games have died or severely stucked because nobody was posting anything.
c) Role-playing can only be done if people are posting in the thread. Cannot be done via email successfully, at list when there are many people involved. It has been tried and was unsuccessful. Although role-playing isn't necessary to play a game and enjoy it, it adds great fun and pleasure when done and creates a stronger bond between the players. For me that is the greatness of PBEM. The rest can be found in shorter time in an Internet game.
Finally the first two points can be overrun with no thread posting if people generaly play on time, always send the turn to the moderator and always put the name of the game and the turn number on the subject of the email they send. But this doesn't happened. So there we go to point a & b to minimize delays.
Yeah, I know, what for that long explanation? It is not accually for you Seige since you didn't asked for an expanation. It is for the rest who might read this thread and have or had the same question
