  • PBEM Rating - Which system shall be used ?

the discussion to this poll was in this thread:

Which system shall be used for a potential PBEM rating/ranking system ?
    9
    Blackice's "10% Wager system"
    11.11%
    1
    quinns'/Solver's "Quadratic Formula System"
    0.00%
    0
    Mathemagician's "Non-Exponential ELO System"
    66.67%
    6
I like none of these enough to use it.
    22.22%
    2

    The poll is expired.

a short explanation of each system:

    Mathemagician's "Non-Exponential ELO System"
    explained by Mathemagician:

The basis of this system is to evaluate a player's rank and relative skill in one game with one formula, as well as to have all players' score gains/losses sum up to 0.
the score is re-calculated every mark *9 turn, but not accumulated.
    score = 10 * (r(i) - s(i))
r(i) depends on your rank in the game
s(i) depends on your score/skill before the game

    Quinns'/Solver's "Quadratic Formula System"
    explained by quinns

Quadratic Rating System: The change in a player's rating, done every 10 turns at the *9 mark, is calculated as though the player is playing individual games against all opponents. The rating change is based upon:
Probability of lower rated player defeating higher rated player =
    [1 /(2 + (1st_Player_Rating - 2nd_Player_Rating)^2)].

    Blackice's "10% Wager System"

Blackice, please post a description of your system of about the same length here. I'll email you on that. Thanks

I hope we get this decided within a week.
Blackice, please post only the description.
Everyone else, please dont post discussion or the like here anymore.
    Thank you.

Sorry Quinns/Solver, but Mathemagician's system is more simpler for me

My... did I just say Math had a simple system?

This does not auger well for our SuperLeague match!

I also like Math's system better.

I will try to explain the 10% wager system as I understand it (although blackice understands it better, but I have not seen his "50 word or less" post.)

        10% Wager System:

Before a game begins, each player wagers 10% of their "before game" rating. The total wagered points are thrown in a "pot". At the *9 mark, those wagered points are divided up depending upon their Power Graph ranking in the game. Those same wagered points are then "re"divided up at the next *9 mark until the end of the game.

What happensd in the event of a replacment? Is there a system that best considers this and the replacement's ablity. The best example that I can give is when I took over for a missing player in Live Wire, my civ was at the bottom of the PG. In 50 turns, I am now on top.
So one guy turns to another guy and says "T.A.I." His friends says "What?" He responds by saing "Think about it;)"

You see? Not much interest from the community in a CTP Rating system. So don't spend too much time on this, Mathman!

I'm interested, I'm just waiting for Blackice to have his say. I know you did it for him Quinns, but I think it only fair to wait til I here it from the horse's mouth.

                  c) In the 10% system the new player is non-rated for two full 9th turn rankings. More than enough time for thier playing style to show through. After that they become ranked in the game, a great opportunity for a newbie to jump in and get the feel for things and kick some butt. Also two full rounds of bonus for the remaining players for the BS of finding a new player.

I may add here and enough padding for the original players for good challenge if someone like Paul or Quinns or any other top ranked player happens to join the game at that time....

So tell me what problems do you have with the 10% SYSTEM?

Like Nimrod I am still waiting for an answer to my question....

                  Any takers? STILL WAITING>>>

so it seems my system got the majority...

do you think we should initiate the rating table soon ?
it seems Super League is rather big right now, so im not sure how big the interest in a PBEM rating system is..

Well, we've waited this long, so a little longer won't hurt.
