BTS 3.13 Problems

Just to make sure everyone's aware:

It seems BTS patch 3.13 changes core Vanilla & Warlords files. Similar to what happened on release of BTS, except this time there are not separate patches for Vanilla & Warlords, and so BTS owners who have updated to 3.13 will have trouble playing with Vanilla & Warlorders who do not have BTS.

For the time being I guess the solution is not updating BTS to 3.13. I've already done that unfortunately. I should be able to re-install once I have the time (& the discs) but for now I imagine I'll be unable to load the save.

Along the same line...

I haven't even turned on the machine that I would need to run Civ on since BTS was released...

What patch do I need to open saves, since I'll probably be getting back after Halloween.

At the moment:

-You need Vanilla Civ4, patched to 1.74 (if you install BTS, it will patch Vanilla to this automatically; you only need to use the actual 1.74 patch if you don't have BTS)
-You need to have a version of BTS lower than the latest 3.13, since 3.13 appears to change Vanilla assets. (This could potentially be fixed by having snoopy use the admin password again, except that would be a terrible idea, because then people without BTS 3.13 wouldn't be able to open it. Let's hope Firaxis can issue a fix.) So don't use the automatic update within BTS, and don't use the 3.13 patch.

guys, it looks like admin patched the sav to 3.13. That means only people with BTS 3.13 can now play the sav. I dont know about anyone else on here, but i only have gotten cIV vanilla.

Hopefully the admin will reverse this decision and we can continue play with normal 1.74
Perhaps this should be voted on by the players in the DG if they want it top be 3.13, im probably not the only one without BTS. i mean, if its a democracy game, doesnt that mean people decide and not the admin?

It would be ridiculous to require BTS to play a vanilla game.

I'm guessing Snoopy didn't understand the consequences of re-instating new assets once again. (Unless I don't understand it?) I'm sure we'll go back to pre-3.13 once this is all sorted. Unless Firaxis can issue another Vanilla patch.

Apparently we just need to distribute the new vanilla DLL and all will be well.

Thing is, this will screw up any other vanilla games you happen to have going on until you can convince your play partners to also upgrade. Anyone still playing other vanilla games?

Just tried to open the save, and couldn't. I do not have BtS and have no intention of getting it. So until this problem is resolved, I gather Kloreep is the only one who can open the turn. Or does anyone else have BtS?

Will it screw up warlords games? (i'm guessing warlords still references CIV)

Not sure, I'm unclear on that. But since it was probably the fix needed to clear up BTS assets problems, I'm guessing it could mess with Warlords. Definitely keep a backup of the old .dll

Warlords has the same problem and has the same fix (just a dll, in the warlords directory). I will at some point post that as well.

You will indeed need to keep a copy of your old DLL in case someone doesn't want to use the new version and you can't get them to download the new one. Hopefully at some point in the near future we'll release this as a "fan patch" and have it relatively, erm, simple, for people to do so that it's not an issue.
