  • Research - 1520 BC

We need to pick a tech to go for after IW.

I think we were leaning towards Metal Casting to trade to Sarantium?

We should also get to Masonry one of these days when we can, it would mean +2 hammers in Fort Sierra and in the longer term a Stone supply for wonder building.

I personally favor Metal Casting for trade, for improvement, for happy, and for an engineer (or 2).

Walls are also a benefit of Masonry of course.

I would say Metal Casting, poprush a (forget the name, forge?) somewhere (it will cancel the happiness hit from poprushing) and set to an engineer right away. Then Masonry and hook the stone.

With any luck we can engineer the pyramids. 4 ppt for the specialist with our philosophical IIRC? That's 25 turns to an engineer from the time we get the specialist in.

We now have to discuss what to do in different scenarios... the completion of research was delayed a turn by the switch to slavery, so next turn we won't have to make the choice; but in 1420 we will.

So long as Sarantium doesn't go against our ultimatum, I think we go with the tech deal and go for Metal Casting.

If we end up in a two-front war, though, what then?

How long is Metal Casting going to take?

Metal Casting will take 26 turns at the current research levels. Seems awefully long to me.

It always is on the long side. :/ I knew it would be 20-30 turns or so. Getting the boat built and working the clam or whatever will cut a couple turns off. Don't know if FS can really get much more gold going anytime soon. Foxtrot will have the ponies and a gem to offer, but not for some time ~10 turns on the ponies I believe?

The length is precisely why we need to be in a position to poprush once we get it, and start working the engineer. The length also gives us the time to set that up.

If we can get the gems hooked by the time we complete metal casting, we can double-pop and more than make up for the unhappiness. It may be worth letting AB get 'overcrouded' in preperation for such a rush, dealing with the unhappies for a few turns just so it's larger after the whip.
