That's more like my warmongering brethren. Nicely done.
I'll be home in 3 hours and can run some tests. Pretty sure odds would still be well in our favor if we settle and are forced to defend. One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin

I agree we have to settle NOW. Only way out of that is getting a guarantee from the Horde that they won't settle, and I think there's pretty much no way in hell that's happening now that they've brought their units up here. So I'd say 3 and settle is probably the right idea. I'm interested in what UnO thinks of our odds, though... I'm quite inexperienced with Civ4 combat.

It depends too much for me to predict right now.
We'll survive the first archer no problem. (my guess is 80% or more odds if they attack with the combat I first) The odds on the second one depend far too much on how damaged the first one makes us. I'll try to run some tests when I get home and can access CIV. If I had to guess right now off hand, I'ld list our odds at about 70% chance of surviving both.
I'm still a little miffed at the Drill I promotion. While it is a good promo for defense, for vs barbs, and marginal against Sarantium, it will do them no good(unless we are very unlucky) attacking our axes.
Essentially it tells me they either planned an archer rush on Sarantium and decided against it or have been planning only to defend, bringing the 2nd archer when they saw our axe, just in case. One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin

I say settle now, it's our only chance at ponies, and well worth the risk. If they attack it opens up our defense clause. We know they do not have copper hooked yet and we outproduce them. Sure, they might take that city, they'ld pay dearly for the act later.
The only other option is to attempt to make the pay for the site by threatening to settle if they don't give us X. But, my gut says settle and I value ponies more than whatever else they could give. One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin

We get 86% chance on the first one, but we're typically damaged to 1.8-3.5 by the end. The second archer takes it out about 80% of the time, and is typically damaged to 1.0 or so.One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin
