Yeah well, we see their spearman too. If they start wandering around in our territory, we can do the same in theirs. (ofcourse we won't, but we can tell them that's our intention)

Okay, let's make one thing clear then. Right now we have 2 options:
1.Give them yet more time (after waiting for like 10 turns and seeing them put a city in our territory) and attack only IF they do not transfer Feudalism.
pros:
- avoid war
- get tech
- do further deals
cons:
- could still be war
- GS will have more time to prepare (perhaps enough to get to Gunpowder and eliminate our currently big military tech advantage)
- GS will have more info on our troops
- Feud is now really cheap for us
2.Just attack and get rid of this nuisance.
pros:
- we are sure what's going on and can commit accordingly
- decent chance to take back lost territory
- good chance to take even more territory (+3 religions, 1 academy and one well developed flood plain area)
- good chance to eliminate opponent
- good chance to get cash for pillaging
cons:
- military buildup slows economy growth
- no further trade on this continent
Im firmly pro 2nd.
Feudalism is too cheap to afford losing territory and being ****ted upon like this.
What do you guys think which option is the best for us now?Last edited by binTravkin; March 18, 2008, 06:09.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

So no option of keeping up appearances for a few turns ? I would be pro 1, but without the "IF" statement. Just surprise-attack anyway after 4 turns, but try to make them believe we won't if they transfer feudalism.
Pros:
==> surprise attack might give us an advantage
==> more units close to GS cities at declaration of war
Cons:
==> probably very hard to keep up our "friendly neighbour" image while moving troops towards their borders
You might be right though in your assumption this is an impossible option.no sig

There is little chance to "keep up appearances", unless we want to delay the attack (by not moving those chucks).
And I think our power graph already looks pretty dangerous and it will be even more so in the next couple of turns.
Conquering GS will be a big prize as well - the extra religions, academy and flood plains, plus the fact we will be very close to domination victory if we settle all that territory.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Why so unhappy? Isn't there any bit of vengeful feelings for their arrogance in you?-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

GAH GAH GAH.
I HAD WRITTEN A REPLY.
Anyways, suming up:
Push the first two upgrades until our turn 4, keep all units but one chuck out of sight, and try to get them to give us Feudalism. If on turn 3 they don't, then war. If they do, then War anyways. I don't think we'll lose much if we do so, and we have a chance of getting Feud for free.Indifference is Bliss

What do others think? Do we give them this extra time?
Perhaps we should not keep the units out, or at least continue buildup of the road, so that they get the message?-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Nestor chooses the same option I prefer.
The question still stands though: is it possible to mislead them ?
Ofcourse it is; but at what price ? If misleading them means we have to keep our units inside our cities for the next 4 turns, while giving them time to further prepare for war... is this all worth the cost of researching feudalism ourselves?no sig

I think as long as we sit and don't attack, they're happy to run towards Gunpowder, so we're really fooling only ourselves.
Feudalism is 3 turns research for us and totally not worth letting them get away with this.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Why inside our cities? we can march them forward until the last tile of the road inside our borders, and upgrade them there.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

We can also move them a tile on road and then upgrade with the remaining 1/2 MP.-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.
