Point has been made, that if we don't switch to acquiring prerequisites for Great Lighthouse immediately, there's a high chance we will miss it.

The other option involves knowing where Iron is earlier with no other additional benefits (the first option has the benefit of sea production, sea trade and being able to hook up marble).

well i assume that we will whip forge and build settler afterwards, that means a 3rd city comming up. I'd like to hook it up to iron

About the lighthouse, our analysis shows that other civs don't have coastal cities, so i don't think they will be fast to research it. It should be possible to get IW first and still be in time for the lighthouse.

U say there is no advantage to IW, but since we don't have sea food yet in our range, nor did banana answer they wanted the sea trade (and i thought open borders wasn't an option either) so neither of one has a real benefit at the moment.

Only thing we should be aware of is that placing a 3rd city too soon may cripple our research, and we will have to go for the commerce making techs asap

Oh, I must have missed that. Can you confirm it PJay?

      Anyways, it's a risky prospect as we'll be having prerequisites for Great Lighthouse only after 11 + 3 + 8 + 5 = 27(+/- 2) turns.

The problem with the Lighthouse is that we can't be sure noone else picks it up unlike Colossus.
We'll have much use of it later even if we don't have open borders with anyone (trade routes are formed between our own cities aswell).

Anyways, I admit that this poll was too steadfast.

Let's discuss the pro's and cons here and arrive to a conlusion soon.

Voted Iron working. Going for the Great Lighthouse was just an idea I was throwing out because I don't like the Colossus`:P

Additionally, if everyone else is lacking coastal cities it makes the Lighthouse a little bit pointless as we won't be able to trade with them!

No it doesn't as trade routes are formed between our own cities aswell if there's not enough foreign trade partners.

only mercs have coast as far as we know, and judging by their known gameplace lighthouse will be low on their list of priorities.

              Why do you think so?
I assume you're thinking they will be focusing on the food as to maximise their GP output.
That, however doesn't exclude the option of GLighthouse as they might be having some fish-rich coastal cities with lighthouses being an essential addition (which could lead them to think about GL as well).

I was thinking they would focus on military. Their plan is to make money by selling themselves, as they're also on the coast going for sailing makes sense because they can make boats to meet new people and sell them armies.

I guess they might build the lighthouse to try and capitalise on this exploration with trade? But still I expect them to head for technology and military over all else.

I thought so in the beginning, but was proved wrong when the mercs built their second city and the numbers didn't match anymore

I vote to continue iron working. Fishing, Sailing, Masonry can come afterwards.

I don't think the Mercs will persue the great lighthouse as a real priority.
