    Archery is needed but is it really needed NOW? It doesn't do anything for us except let us build archers, I can't see any turn advantage in it unless we're about to start building an army and not stopping until we've soaked the ground in the blood of our enemies. I strongly doubt we'll be seriously attacked by anyone that soon.

    Mysticism.. We've missed the religions. Theres an arguments that says we should go for oracle cos we're industrious, but we have no marble as far as we know and we've already decided to go for the two sea wonders. There was a debate about theocracy too, I think it's too late and given our traits we're better off with organised religion for the +25% bonus.

    Bronzeworking lets us pop rush after a turn of anarchy (powerful when we have rice + 2 flood plains), gets us towards metal casting and iron working and exposes copper.

    Fishing is a nice choice for exploration, we can build one or two gallys and send them in different directions. Might helps us get the +1 to naval movement for circumnavigation later. It's also on our path for the lighthouse.

    I don't think theres any choice, Bronze working gives us the most benefits the quickest. But then I may be wrong

      [copied from the other thread]

      My tech-preferences would be:
      => Bronze Working
      => Fishing

      Bronze Working
      --> reveals copper, so we can choose our next city plot wiser
      --> chopping, so we can build our settler fast(er)
      --> It leads to metal casting, which gives us forges (our bonus building) and the colossus (+1 gold on water)
      (total : 813 research, 131 hammers with copper, 202 hammers without copper)

      This metal casting is too research-expensive to do straight away, but it should still be one of our early goals...

      Fishing, Sailing
      --> we can work water tiles
      --> we can start exploring over sea
      --> It gives us the lighthouse (+1 food on water)
      --> with masonry we can build the great lighthouse (+2 traderoutes for coastal cities)
      (total : 314 research, 194 hammers)
      no sig

        i agree with lacero

        the way i see it, we want bronze working first. we want to regularly work the 2 cottage tiles + rice, working 1 mine with the 4th and 5th pop, then poprush a settler, until we have 4 cities. we could research metal casting meanwhile
        maybe a baseline pop of 4 and rushing at 6 would be better. i don't have time to run a test today

        with the flood plain cottages to come there's no need to work sea tiles now
        there's also knowing where the copper is, as already mentioned
        i would favor building forge/colossus before lighthouse/great lighthouse if we can find copper in time

        btw did anybody read blake's recent thread in the strategy forum? apparently there are a few quirks about poprushing that can make it extremely effective on certain turns and that require micromanagement a lot alike certain aspects of SMAC (especially if one has some sort of production bonus, as the case with our forges). did anybody bother to master this already?

          Bronze working.

          Second choices Fishing or Animal Husbandry.

          Definitely not Mysticism or Archery though.
          No doubt other civs will beat us to the early religions, and if we have copper nearby we can build spearmen instead of archers.

            hmm i was in favor of archery because of the barbarians, but i can live with bw: if we don't have bronze in our second city spot we will need archery tho

              We just have to found our second city next to a bronze spot

                  Consensus has clearly crystalized around Bronze Working, We can consider the thread sucessfull.
