We need to decide on a city site. The region to settle is here:
http://apolyton.net/upload/view/1104...D_CitySite.JPG
I'll summarise the issues raised in the previous turn thread:
1. It is likely that AC would like us to settle a coastal city
2. The isthmus is likely to be indefensible at the moment, so best not be too greedy
3. A non-coastal city is more defensible later on
4. There are lots of resources to make one excellent city site
All pulling in different directions...
Some further thoughts for consideration: At the moment, happiness is more plentiful than health (due to flood plains in core cities), meaning that it is desirable to control at least one source of bananas. That would suggest settling somewhere next to the southernmost bananas. If the city is ultimately indefensible, then we should not invest too much into it at risk of souring present relations; its primary role in the short/mid term should be adding resources, trade routes (a sea port?) to our empire.
Blake: what discussions have you had with AC regarding borders? Reading your posts in the previous turn thread, it reads like you are giving advice based on gut feeling (MP experience) rather than on concrete discussion with AC. (I'm not doubting your advice, just wondering exactly what its basis is.)

I've been thinking...
A worker in EotS would be nice, and then a settler.
Taz can complete the lib in about 6 turns, and then a barracks? We need some harder units.
I started a mine for Wines so that lib can get done in a more reasonable time frame.
With the lib complete, bump the sci slider up to ~70%, a little below break even. The GSci is complete in 2 turns and we can go to a higher sci slider with the academy.
Godel, I set it up so that the settler can join an axe and skirm this turn, and move N as a stack if that would be wise (ACen sticking around) while another skirm can move N and meet the spear if we want the settler to move fastest.(\__/)

I've talked to Impaler in informal diplomacy.
They are not planning to settle that area anytime soon, and he wasn't eager to discuss borders.
I decided that this is one of these situations where we are better off just doing it rather than asking for permission, so I didn't press the issue.
If we want to found horse-6, lets just found horse 6 and see what happens.
Economics:
I think we probably still need to focus mostly on workers and settlers. We can make EotS our military pump.
edit: So my intuition with the cite site is:
If we asked, they'd say "No!" and be REALLY pissed if we go ahead and do it anyway.
If we just do it, they'll be annoyed, but probably wont do anything.
If we take a greedier site, they'd be REALLY pissed.
At REALLY pissed level, we stand a good chance of them declaring war or otherwise suffering serious permanent relationship damage.Last edited by Blake; February 27, 2008, 22:42.

Thanks nye and Blake for the input. I will play in about 10 hours.
Atm horse-6 is favoured, and I will play towards that if no one esle raises objections. If anyone wants to dispute this or thinks more discussion is needed, please post in the next 8 hours.

Worker/Settler in EotS has the benefit of freezing it's growth and maintaining the cash/growth from/for the cottages.
EotS also has the ability to build a worker now, and it to be complete before Taz finishes it's lib.
We'll want to keep Wines on development, right?(\__/)
