  • Centurian Trade Deal

Arrived in the inbox, formalized after a diplomacy session with Impaler last night.

Greating Stormian brothers, after extensive negotiations your
Diplomats (Impaler[WrG] & Blake) have come to an agreement on a Tech
Trade proposal. The following terms will be the recognized terms of
this treaty, please affirm, sign and send back a copy of this treaty
to indicate acceptance of it. Centauri will then start the
transaction in motion on the present turn.

Team Alpha Centauri will transfer Civil Service to Gathering Strom, in
exchange AC's 150 beaker debt to GS is considered replayed, in
addition GS agrees to research without delay Feudalism as its next
tech following the completion of its current Tech. Upon completion of
Feudalism, GS will gift it too AC. Lastly GS agrees to eventually
research and transfer to AC Paper upon completion at a time some
reasonable distance in the future as GS completes it in the course of
its Liberalism b-line. Furthermore AC agrees not to compete with GS
    on being first to Liberalism.

In a related development we would like to sign an Open Borders treaty
with GS, our scout has finally found a navigable passage between us.
We would like this to be a Trade only treaty, units will voluntarily
not enter the cultural borders of the other team. If this is
agreeable to you then we will also send an OB treaty offer in game
this turn. The tech trade and open borders offers are independent and
you may accept or reject each individually.

Here's the summary of the tech trade deal:

AC gifts us CS now and we immediately clear their 150b debt.

We then research Feudalism and gift it to AC.
Once we research Paper, we gift it to AC as well.

The total beaker premium here is 88%, which is pretty ouch, but I decided to agree with the deal (I made an "executive decision" during diplomacy with Impaler), mostly on the basis that CS is the most useful tech in the game, while Feudalism and paper are both reasonably useless (paper is especially useless to AC). Furthermore it is nice that AC wont contest Liberalism.

I've agreed to this deal, I'd like another couple of stormians to formally agree so we can put our names there and return it to AC, hopefully before they play the turn.

The open border deal looks entirely acceptable also.

I do not see any big problem with Blake. It lets us get moving.

      e-mail sent to AC:

Team Gathering Storm accepts both proposals.

      Deal 1:
AC transfers Civil Service to GS.
AC's 150 beaker debt to GS is cleared.
GS agrees to research Feudalism as the next tech and transfer Feudalism to AC the turn it is completed.
GS agrees to transfer Paper to AC upon completion.
Furthermore, AC agrees to not contest Liberalism.

      Deal 2:
Open Borders for purposes of trade commerce only, units are to respect cultural borders.

This is a good deal, but in the future, if we are to be friends with AC, don't quibble over things as insignificant as a 150 beaker debt.

Afterall, what is a few gold pieces/beakers amongs friends?

AC are stickers for such things.

I think that GS and Banana would have got along well with more open tech sharing... but now, AC are our only partners and they have at least one serious bean-counter.

            Blake is correct I believe.

AC expect to haggle. They have turned down proposals in the past that would have led to freer exchanges.

we currently are not in a position to haggle too much on deals. That's the problem... we are weak. For the moment, I expect the biggest advantage being on AC's side.

Given that, all reasonable deals you can haggle together are superb
