They might be planning a rush of their own with a couple of upgraded Axes...

Are we certain it's only us 3 on the continent?
And her eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming...

Here's another chance for me to learn something. Can I ask why gems are the worst to found on? I guess I thought gold was the worst commerce special to found on. But I actually thought that pretty much all the food specials were worse founding sites than commerce specials. Basically, reasoning that you can always build cottages to replace the commerce you lost, but the concentrated food is irreplaceable.

The turnplayer must've left auto-promote on or something.

I'm not seeing banana as a hugely credible threat right now .
It's all a masterplan to make us overonfident.. or not

Technically gold is better than gems, but it's MUCH more likely that gems will be on food-bearing land. Gold is nearly invaraibly plains hill or desert hill while gems is usually grassland or grassland hill.

You're right that it's worse still to found on any good food bearing resource - that is if it'll produce MORE than 4 food, I have little qualms about founding on grassland sugar and difficult to irrigate rice.

Then again concentrated commerce can be VERY useful for non-financial non-river starts... since it takes really quite a long time for cottages to produce the same level of commerce, in such a case I'd say it's worse to found on a commerce special than food special (assuming food is relatively abundant).

I have, on occasion, put a city raider promo on a warrior, with the intention (as Dom said) of upgrading it to an axe and doin' some damage.

Hopefully Spinebreaker can scout out their lands well enough for us to figure out if they have copper...

However if you're into perfect-play you leave the warrior unpromoted until it's right up against the target city (and upgraded to an Axeman...).

It's not copper we should be worried about.
                  It's horses.

For one they (may) already have AH, while they definitely don't have BW. For us, we don't have AH but do have BW.

Secondly, the Horses will get to the battlefield much more quickly, even despite the bad terrain.

Thirdly, horses will counter our intended army quite nicely... until we acquire the Jumbos anyway, which we should make very high priority.

Good point, that. I've switched to that method (leaving units unpromoted until needed). I have also used a city raider warrior to finish off a wounded AI warrior in a city... but of course, that's the AI.

As for horsies... we're talkin' chariots here. They would be very annoying, perhaps, but not nearly as dangerous to us as they would be if this was a Warlords game. We have copper. Besdies, a spear or two is all we would need to mangle any chariots beyond all recognition.

chariots upgrade to HA before we can get to cats, if they decide to push that way. I agree with Blake those are more important to look out for than copper. But we've got bigger fish to fry first.
