Once we have four units in place, if we defend 4,2,88, & 89 (Assuming that Blake is right about 89 being a plains forest) we will:
    (1) deny them four of their most productive tiles (enough to force them to work a less productive tile)
    (2) hold the most defensible tiles available
    (3) have an adjacent unit ready to counter attack if any of them are assaulted
    (4) two tiles threaten the capital
    (5) two tiles threaten the cow, and two the FP.
    (6) only two tiles in their radius will not be visible (all tiles adjacent to The Voice will be visible).
With three units 4,2, & 41 will do several of these.Edit: of course copper changes everything.

It seems a shame to use our Woody II warrior as bait, when he could be exploring the continent. If he must join the choke short-term (and there is good reason for doing so), then let him block a more distant tile and throw Grog to the lions, if need be.

When more Skirms arrive, SB can be released from guard-duty and go exploring.

We must not have a map gap!

FYI this information can be gleaned with complete accuracy from the Demographics graphs. It's a turn late but that's not really a big deal. By the same token Vox can pretty much see what we're doing, they may not bother extracting exact figures from the graph, but they can certainly see a hammer or food spike. They'll be able to see a period of intense hammerage and thus we can't really rely on being able to "hide" a military from them - not hard to figure out what spiking hammers and a soaring soldiers score means.

It's really quite disturbing how little privacy there is in CIV, this demogame has certainly been enlightening in that regard.

Unlikely. They are running 10 food, 5 hammers. That makes them 13 turns to a settler if they are building it now.

At 5 hammers they get 2 archers by the time we hit size 5. From there we can outbuild them 12:7 skirms:archers. They are not going to outpace us to a second city with defences.

I am beginning to wonder... at what point would it be kosher to offer an early opponent a chance to be absorbed?

The loser's capital is vacated, the civ is conquered, and all members of a losing team are admitted to the victor.

Surrender or die. Surrender means players get to live on in the DG, while dying means they will sit out for a very long time once vanquished (until the victor is in contact with all other civs).

Whether or not the people of the Storm would want to make the offer at some point to Vox, I wonder what is happening elsewhere with us being 5th in soldiers...

We might want to ask the admins about it.

That's something I thought about too. I'd be more than willing to at least entertain the idea of making that offer.

For sure it's the cleanest resolution to the war, no need to spend 300+ shields on units... gain The Voice earlier.

But the real trick is getting Vox to make the offer .

The soldiers score is unlikely to mean anything. In the early game soliders is ALL about tech. Pretty much any team with BW will out-soldier any team without BW. I'd guess that 3-4 teams have BW, and 3-4 don't have it - the ones who went for religion being the havenots.

Once everyone has BW (and other soldier techs like archery) the soldiers score will become more meaningful.

A maximum of two civs have bw. Likely only one.

Actually, a maximum of one. The other turn there was an 8K increase available was turn 10 and best went to 12K total and two twams that got tech would not have been at 12k with bw added.
